Todd Bodine brought Mike Skinner's qualifying streak to an end two weeks ago at Texas when he knocked Skinner off the top of the pylon and stole the pole for the Sam's Town 400. Tonight, it was Skinner's turn to repay the favor. With a late draw, Skinner went out 25 trucks after Bodine turned his fast lap to earn the provisional pole and knocked the defending series champion out of the top spot to win the pole for tonight's Toyota Tundra 200.
Skinner, in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota out of the Bill Davis Racing stable, turned a fast lap of 29.463 seconds/122.187 miles per hour to earn his seventh pole of the 2007 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Skinner's lap also broke the existing track record of 29.503 seconds/122.021 mph set by Ron Hornaday in 2006.
Bodine, in the Germain Racing No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota, will start alongside after turning the second fastest lap of the evening at 29.505 seconds/122.013 miles per hour. Jack Sprague qualified third in the No. 60 Con-way Freight Toyota with a 29.537 second/121.881 mph lap, and defending race winner Johnny Benson qualified fourth in the No. 23 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Toyota with a 29.639 second/121.462 mile per hour trip around the flat one-mile oval. Last week's winner at Michigan Travis Kvapil was the highest qualified Wisconsin native, turning a 29.641 second/121.453 mile per hour lap in the No. 6 K&N Filters Ford.
Ryan Mathews, another Wisconsin native, was sixth in the No. 36 Bill Davis Racing Toyota. Mathews' lap of 29.651 seconds/121.412 miles per hour will give him his best career starting position. Erik Darnell was seventh in the No. 99 Northern Tool + Equipment Ford at 29.666 seconds/121.351 mph, Ted Musgrave was eighth in the No. 9 Team ASE Toyota at 29.712 second/121.163 miles per hour, Willie Allen was ninth in the No. 13 ThorSport Racing Chevrolet at 29.788 seconds/120.854 mph, and another Winsconsinite Tim Sauter rounded out the top ten in the No. 07 Lester Buildings Chevrolet at 29.803 seconds/120.793 mph.
There were no incidents in the session, and all 36 drivers that made a qualifying attempt will start the Toyota Tundra 200.
