| Raybestos Rookie Race Notes: Michigan
06-16-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
Aaron Fike finished 17th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the seventh time this season. Unofficially Fike leads the Raybestos Rookie standings by 33 points (112-79) over both Tim Sauter and Willie Allen, who are tied for second. "I'm just happy to finish," said Fike. "We struggled a little bit. The two-mile and bigger tracks aren't our forte, so I'm looking forward to moving on and going to all the short tracks coming up." Many teams reported a loose condition early on, did you guys struggle with that too? "We were way loose the whole race. We struggled with that yesterday and most of the race." Blake Bjorkland, No. 8 HAAS CNC Machine Tools Chevrolet This is your first visit to Michigan in the trucks, how important was the track time? "We chased our tail quite a bit in practice and found a broken rear gear we had. We were all over the place this week, so we kind of tuned ourselves out of the game, but we'll get them next time." Willie Allen, No. 13 Thorsport Chevrolet What are thoughts on Milwaukee? "It's a short track, and kind of back to my roots. I just can't wait to get back there." Tim Sauter, No. 07 Lester Buildings/ASI Chevrolet After qualifying 34th, you made some steady progress from the start, what was the difference between qualifying and the race? "We're coil binding our setup, and with what we're doing there I cannot get into the turn. I can't turn the wheel, but it's good in race trim that way because I can roll in and pick up the gas earlier. So it's the old see-saw game." You were one of the only lead lap trucks to pit with about 20 to go. "We kind of screwed up because we lost some spots. I made the call. I felt like the first of tires was the best set. When we took them off we re-glued them up, and we actually put them on there at the end. I actually lost speed." Jason White, No. 7 Hooters Energy Drink Chevrolet Did you fight a loose condition like so many other teams? "It was very loose. We could run for ten of 15 laps and then it would just get so loose that it would be hard to drive it. We got it better and better with every pit stop, and then we could run with those guys at the end. We felt pretty good about it."
