In an ironic twist of fate, the track that holds a lot of sentimental value for Ted Musgrave, driver of the No. 9 Team ASE/UCoat It Toyota Tundra is also the track where he has had the worst luck. Musgrave loves the racing surface, the racing action, the fans, the location of Michigan International Speedway, and it's the track where his NASCAR career began. He's looking forward to a strong performance with a solid finish in Saturday's Michigan 200.
"Michigan is one of my favorite race tracks. I like it, it's up north, and the atmosphere around that track - I love it. The racing surface? You talk about making a groove, it's just anywhere you want to go, you can go, especially in the trucks. You can run from the top to the bottom, bottom to the top. It's a fantastic race track where you can get in some trouble, but the track is mostly forgiving. The speeds are high, but the surface allows you to run anywhere," said Musgrave.
In August of 1990, Musgrave got his first break in the Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway. It's something a driver doesn't forget.
"There are sentimental feelings for Michigan due to the fact that it's my very first track I raced when I finally got a chance to run in the Cup Series," said Musgrave.
It's true Musgrave has a lot of love for Michigan. Ironically, Musgrave's performance is far better at a track that's often compared to Michigan, California Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
"You run Fontana much like you run Michigan," said Musgrave. "But no matter what you do, there's always something different about race tracks. For some reason, my luck just doesn't follow me from one track to the next. There's not much difference in driving style or truck setups, from Fontana to Michigan, but I guess it's just a matter of luck."
Musgrave has raced well at Michigan, and knows he'll find success there.
"I've had great trucks at Michigan. I've been leading laps, with victory in sight, and we've had blown motors, accidents all these happen when things were looking good. I know Texas is a track that I say 'owes' me one; Michigan doesn't owe me one, since we have always run strong there, but I'd be very happy to get a finish that represents how well we run there and how much I enjoy that race track," said Musgrave.
Musgrave is fifth in Truck Series points heading into the Michigan race weekend. In addition to the traditional Team ASE logo on the No. 9 Toyota Tundra, fans will notice UCoat It will adorn the rear quarter panels of the truck. For more information on UCoat It visit www.ucoatit.com.

MIS Track Love: "Michigan is one of my favorite race tracks. The speeds are high, but the surface allows you to run anywhere."
Twist of Fate - Michigan is track with Musgrave's worst average finish position: "I've had great trucks at Michigan. I've been leading laps, with victory in sight, and we've had blown motors, accidents all happen when things were looking good. I know Texas is a track that I say 'owes' me one; Michigan doesn't owe me one, since we have always run strong there, but I'd be very happy to get a finish that represents how well we run there and how much I enjoy that race track."
First Track for Musgrave was MIS: "I believe there are sentimental feelings for Michigan due to the fact that it's my very first track I raced when I finally got a chance to run in the Cup Series." (August, 1990, Musgrave ran in the Champion Spark Plug 400, starting 24th, finishing 39th after breaking a valve)
Musgrave Has Wins at California Speedway: "You run Fontana much like you run Michigan. No matter what you do, there's always something different about race tracks. For some reason, my luck just doesn't follow me from one track to the next. There's not much difference in driving style or truck setups, from Fontana to Michigan, but I guess it's just a matter of luck."
