Thirty is an old newspaper term denoting end of story. For Toyota and Todd Bodine, 30 represents a successful mid-point in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition.
Bodine's victory in Friday night's Sam's Town 400 was Toyota's 30th win. Bodine, of course, drives the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota.
The win was the 11th by Germain Racing and that represents more than a third of the truck maker's victories in the series.
Bodine seemingly owns Texas Motor Speedway. He successfully defending last year's Sam's Town 400 win and in the process ended a 24-race winless streak. The 43-year-old veteran counts four victories in six trips to the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
Those four wins matched Brendan Gaughan's series record for victories at the same track - also Texas Motor Speedway.
A day earlier Bodine collected just his second career Bud Pole.
"We had the best truck all weekend and here we are," he said.
Fans showed their displeasure at Bodine's tangle with Travis Kvapil that dropped the latter driver from the lead to a limping finish of sixth. The winner merely shrugged; it was hardly the first time he climbed from his vehicle to a chorus of boos.
"I'm a Bodine," he quipped.
Bodine is the series' sixth different winner in the season's nine races and fifth to win from a front row start. The race marked the fourth time the leader of the most laps - Ron Hornaday Jr. with 117 serials - hasn't won.
Pole winners - Bodine and Clint Bowyer - have won two consecutive races at TMS. Prior to last November, a fast qualifier hadn't gone to Victory Lane since Bryan Reffner in October 2000.
Friday night's six lead lap finishers matched the fewest in a series race at TMS. It had happened twice before - most recently in June 2002.
Bodine's winning average speed, 118.057 mph, was the slowest for a winner of the track's spring event.
Mike Skinner racked up his fifth consecutive top-five finish matching Jack Sprague's record for top fives in a row at the track. Skinner has led all seven of his TMS appearances - 418 laps total - and paced his ninth race of the 2007 season.
Ron Hornaday Jr.'s fourth-place finish was the two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck champion's best at TMS. He was fifth in last fall's Silverado 350K.
Tim Sauter, 14th, logged his top finish of the year and matched his 2003 best performance at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kraig Kinser's 15th-place effort also was a season high.
Gene Christensen, who fielded four entries in the Sam's Town 400, announced his candidacy for Texas' 4th Congressional District seat during a pre-race news conference. The Republican is believed to be the first owner in a NASCAR national series to seek federal elective office.
A pair of milestones will be reached in next Saturday's Michigan 200. Spears Motorsports, with current driver Dennis Setzer, will appear in its 300th race. Terry Cook will celebrate his 250th start - third most all-time behind Sprague and Rick Crawford's 256 - at Michigan International Speedway.
