Chad McCumbee and theGPSstore.com / Garmin Chevrolet continued their stretch of solid runs on short tracks this past weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Park in the latest outing of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
McCumbee started the event from the 28th position, and was working his way up through the field with a plan to get up front and stay up front. The rain may have tried to dampen their spirits, but the team wasn't about to let that happen as they brought home a 14th-place finish.
"It was a good short track outing for us," said McCumbee. "We had a good strategy for the rain, we were trying to hold out for the rain thinking that we might be able to bring us home a top-five but the rain came before halfway and so we had to change up our options."
When the rain came, the team then had to change strategy and enter the pits to try and set their truck up for the remainder of the race. By doing do, Chad was able to have a stout Silverado that carried him to a 14th place finish.
"We had to pit a little late," added McCumbee. "We put on some left side tires, because we were a little loose out on the track. After we pitted, we just had to try and work our way up through traffic, which can be pretty tough on a short track like Mansfield, but I was pretty happy with our finish when all was said and done. I think we have some good momentum which should carry us on through our next race at Dover."
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will be back in action this Friday June 1st at Dover International Speedway.
