May is always a busy month for anybody involved in motorsports. From Indianapolis to Charlotte and many other points across the United States, May often proves to be the month that challenges race teams, sponsors, media and the variety of motorsports related businesses that assist the sport. Perhaps no other company knows the demands better than the JHE Production Group, Inc. With significant involvement with four high profile events -- the NASCAR NEXTEL Pit Crew Challenge, The NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge, Food Lion Speed Street and the Coca-Cola 600 -- the JHE Production Group makes the most of its busiest and hectic month.
"There is no doubt we have a tremendous amount on our plate during the month of May," says Jay Howard, president of JHE Production Group, Inc. "The NASCAR NEXTEL Pit Crew Challenge is growing by leaps and bounds and is quickly becoming one of the premier all-star related events. Almost every single person we have on staff works together to produce that event. The pre-race production for the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge is among the most ambitious endeavors that we take on each year. The Food Lion Speed Street festival draws 400,000 people annually to a 12 block uptown district in Charlotte. It takes a tremendous amount of coordination and planning. One of the things that makes Food Lion Speed Street truly challenging is the fact that a lot of our staff works setting that event up and then turn their attention to the Coca-Cola 600 which is also a huge high profile pre race event."
The NASCAR NEXTEL Pit Crew Challenge was held on Wednesday, May 16th at the Charlotte Bobcats Arena. The event drew a record crowd of more than 6,000 fans. 2007 marked the third year the event was held. Ryan Newman's seven-member crew changed four tires, filled the car with gas and pushed it 40 yards in 24.66 seconds to collect the $70,300 first prize.
Food Lion Speed Street has brought top-quality entertainment to uptown Charlotte for more than a decade. In addition to celebrating NASCAR's strong heritage in the region it assists in promoting Charlotte and surrounding communities, leading to a major economic impact on the entire region.
Coordination and execution of NASCAR and IRL pre race activities continues to be at the core of the JHE Production Group's focus. With two high profile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup events at Lowe's Motor Speedway grouped over a two weekend period the demand on JHE and its employees is undeniable.
"I am extremely proud of how well our staff handles the multitude of tasks that are thrown their way in a short amount of time during May," Howard says. "We are committed to making each of these events as entertaining and successful as humanly possible. We strive each year to exceed both our own expectations and the expectations of our sponsors and our clients. We welcome the challenge that the month of May presents for us as a team."
