Bill Davis Racing announced today they will continue their driver development program with rookie driver Ryan Mathews. Mathews will be behind the wheel of the No. 36 Toyota Tundra starting this weekend at the Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Speedway.
Mathews most recently competed in the ARCA RE/MAX Series. In 2006, Mathews earned two top-fives, four top-10's and seven top-15's in his nine starts within the series. Mathews also captured an unprecedented 17 top-fives and 26 top-10's in 44 starts in the 2005 Super Late Model Series.
"The No. 36 team is not where we expected it to be at this point in the season," stated team manager Mark Chambers. "We feel like trying a couple of different combinations will help make the entire group a stronger race team. Tyler has shown a lot of potential. It is now Ryan's turn to see how impressive he can be behind the wheel."
Tyler Walker will continue to be a part of the Bill Davis Racing's driver development program.
"Tyler has shown he can drive," commented owner Bill Davis. "We know our Toyota equipment is among the best in the garage. Having said that, what better way is there to evaluate young talent and see which one can rise to the occasion. The sky is the limit for these young drivers and the No. 36 Toyota Tundra team. We look forward to their successes."
Rockford Montgomery and its 360 OTC brand will remain a valued partner of Bill Davis Racing. They will continue to have presence in both the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series as well as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The company will return as the sponsor of the 36 truck at the Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park in late June with an exciting new product.
