Hamlin Comes Home 25th at Lowe's Motor Speedway

Kevin Hamlin made his second start for Bobby Hamilton Racing this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the sixth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event of the season. Hamlin qualified the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge in the 26th position on Friday afternoon; two spots a head of teammate Ken Schrader.

Hamlin began to work his way toward the front pack when a mishap on the track forced him to pit road. Hamlin was battling for position when another competitor became loose and hit the side quarter panel of the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge. Hamlin heard a loud pop and suspected a cut right rear tire causing an unscheduled pit stop which put the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge two laps down in 33rd position. Hamlin fought an extremely loose truck the remainder of the night and was able to climb to 25th position.

Hamlin qualified the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge in the 26th position on Friday afternoon for his third start in the NCTS. By lap five Hamlin had worked his way into the 24th position. "It takes a little bit of time for the tires to warm up," said Hamlin. "But I think it will come around."

The first of seven cautions waved on lap nine. Hamlin restarted in the 20th position. Following the restart on lap 11 Hamlin was battling for position when another competitor became loose and hit the right side quarter panel of the No. 4 Open Joist Dodge. Hamlin heard a loud pop and suspected a cut right rear tire causing an unscheduled pit stop. The No. 4 Open Joist Dodge Racing team changed two right side tires, added fuel and sent Hamlin on his way. The green-flag stop put the team two laps down to the leader in 33rd position.

The second caution came out on lap 38 for an accident in turn four. "It is dancing all over the place," said Hamlin. "I am doing everything I can to keep from wrecking." Crew Chief Marcus Richmond made the call to come down pit road for adjustments. The No. 4 Open Joist Racing Team changed all four tires, added fuel and went down three rounds on the track bar to help the loose condition. He restarted in the 31st position.

It wasn't long until the third caution waved. "It is still free, but I don't think the tires have had enough time to come in," said Hamlin under the caution. Richmond made the decision not to pit. Hamlin restarted in the 30th spot. Even though he was several laps down Hamlin was able to pass several in front of him despite the loose truck. By lap 95 he had moved into the 29th position.

Hamlin continued to battle a loose truck most of the night. On lap 100 he radioed in, "It is finally where it needs to be."

A hard charging Ron Hornaday Jr. continued to lap much of the field preventing the team to make up the laps. Hamlin finished the event in 25th position, three laps down Hornaday Jr.

Hornaday Jr. won the The Quaker Steak and Lube 200 before an estimated crowd of 45,000. A.J. Allmendinger, Todd Bodine, Mark Martin and Ted Musgrave rounded out the top five finishers. The next event for the NCTS will be at Mansfield Motorsports Park on May 26, 2007 with Kevin Hamlin driving the Open Joist Dodge.
