Kyle Busch returned to the No. 51 Billy Ballew Motorsports, Richard Tocado Companies Chevrolet Silverado for the first time in the 2007 season in hopes of becoming the fourth driver to win three or more races in a row at the same track in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Busch swept the victory at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in 2005 and 2006 for Billy Ballew Motorsports. But victory wasn't meant to be as handling and tire issues kept him from repeating the win.
Busch put the Chevrolet Silverado in the sixth place position on the starting grid after posting a qualifying time of 30.263 seconds at a speed of 178.560 mph on the 1.5-mile speedway in Concord, North Carolina. The team was optimistic at the start of the race, but had to pit under the first caution for a flat tire on lap eight. Busch clipped the outside wall after reporting a tire vibration and then a hang-up on pit road cost the team several positions on the track. Busch rallied from restarting 32nd in the field to the 11th place finish for the Billy Ballew Motorsports Team.
"It felt like we were over traveling on the right front tire," Busch said. "Or that we had a wheel bearing going or something, but it was a loose wheel. We did have some tire inconsistencies, but the truck was starting to come in there at the end and we just ran out of laps."
Busch's truck did rally in the race and according to NASCAR's Loop Scoring statistics Busch lead in complete passes with 83 in the 134-lap race. Of Busch's 83 passes 26 lead to an advancement of position.
"I would have liked to get Billy Ballew back to the victory lane and get myself and all these guys (back there)," Busch said. "They work awfully hard and they have got a lot of time that they spend preparing all and getting all these trucks built. We'll just have to wait until next time to return to victory lane."
Kelly Sutton will pilot the No. 51 Billy Ballew Motorsports Craftsman Truck next as the Series heads to the Mansfield Motorsports Park for the running of the Ohio 250 Saturday, May 26th. The 250-lap race will be televised live on Fox beginning at 1:00pm ET. For more information on Billy Ballew Motorsports visit www.BillyBallewMotorsports.com.
