(VPS Motorimages Photo) Jack Sprague continues to prove why he is the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' only three-time Series' Champion. Sprague entered Kansas Speedway for Saturday afternoon's running of the O'Reilly 250 and quickly worked his way past his competition from his 14th place starting spot and into the top-three by the drop of the checkered flag. "It's a great day for the Con-Way Freight Toyota. I'd like to thank TRD, (Crew Chief) Tony Furr and all the guys. They brought me great stuff again." Sprague's Con-way Freight Toyota was great in race trim and he proved that after working his way into the top-10 by lap two, after qualifying 14th with a lap of 32.282 seconds at a speed of 167.276 miles per hour. Sprague was a "little tight off, but not bad" by the event's first caution on lap seven, but that didn't stop his forward momentum as he worked his way into fourth by lap 16. Sprague was the fastest truck on the track when the second caution waved on lap 21. Sprague stayed out with the leaders even though he was a little "loose in and tight off". When the race returned to green flag competition Sprague held strong among the top-five before the leaders began to make green flag pit stops. Sprague followed suit and brought his No. 60 Con-way Freight Toyota to the attention of the crew, under green, on lap 59. The crew had a great stop and when the green flag stops cycled through, Sprague was shown 5th on the scoring monitor. "We're perfect now," said Sprague after getting a feel for his truck following the adjustments. When the event's next caution fell on lap 73, Sprague assumed the lead. "We're getting loose in again," said Sprague as he dropped to second spot. Furr had a final chance to work on the truck when the caution was displayed on lap 111 for an accident in turn one. Furr called Sprague to the pits for four tires, fuel, air pressure, and track bar adjustments but a lug nut hung in the rear tire changers pit gun which cost Sprague two spots on pit road. When the green flag flew, Sprague's rhythm was disrupted by lap traffic and he slid to fifth before he began his charge to the front. Sprague moved into fourth position on lap 138 and picked off another truck on lap 160 to finish third in his fifth start at Kansas Speedway and top his career best finish at the Midwestern mile-and-a-half. "It would take me a little bit to get going on the restarts and I needed the long green runs, so I wish I had about two more laps there," explained Sprague. "I don't know that I had anything for the 99 (race winner) but the guys did a great job." By virtue of his third place finish, Sprague moved to fifth in the Championship Point Standings and now sits only 171 behind the points' leader, Mike Skinner. Sprague's pit crew also grabbed the Checkers/Rally's Double-Drive Thru Challenge Award for being the fastest pit crew on pit road.
