Walker, No. 36 Toyota Review: Kansas
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

After posting his best NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finish (eighth) last time out at Martinsville Speedway, Tyler Walker wanted to show his fierce presence once again at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway.

Despite this being his first trip to the Kansas facility, Walker was the seventh-fastest driver in Friday morning's practice session. The 360 OTC crew wanted to try a few things during the final practice session, but that session was cancelled due to rain.

As the first Bill Davis Racing truck to qualify Saturday afternoon, Walker wanted to show his teammates his strength. Walker posted an incredible time of 31.650 seconds, and the Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate would start second for Saturday's late afternoon race, falling only to his teammate Mike Skinner.

After the green flag waved for the 167-lap race, Walker fell a few positions due to the handling of his truck being loose in and tight off. He remained in the top 10 during a long green flag run that would extend well over 50 laps.

Walker pitted under green flag conditions for some adjustments, four tires and fuel. However, a loose tire rolled across pit road, forcing Walker to serve a drive through penalty under green flag racing. The mistake cost Walker and the 360 OTC team three laps.

Driving hard and determined to gain ground, Walker and his green machine improved on the track. The truck ran well, but was a little tight throughout the remainder of the race. Walker remained level-headed through the adversity and finished 23rd.

The team has two weeks off before returning to action at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. The race will be televised live Friday, May 18 on SPEED.
