Mike Skinner is on one of the hottest streaks in the history of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He's won three consecutive races, the last two of which came after starting from the pole. While it's yet to be determined whether or not he can continue his winning streak, he continued his strong qualifying performances by taking his third consecutive pole in qualifying for the O'Reilly 250 at Kansas Speedway. Skinner also won the pole for this race last year.
Skinner ran a fast lap of 31.629 seconds/170.729 miles per hour in his Bill Davis Racing No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota to earn his 33rd career NCTS Bud Pole Award. Skinner nipped his BDR teammate Tyler Walker for the top spot, with Walker's lap of 31.650 seconds/170.616 miles per hour good for outside the front row in the No. 36 360 OTC Toyota.
Kelly Bires picked up his best career starting position, and will line up third after turning a 31.804 second/169.790 mph lap in the No. 21 Air Force/Bush's Beans Ford. Travis Kvapil will line up fourth, his third top five starting position of the season. Kvapil's lap in the Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 K&N Filters Ford was 31.884 seconds/169.364 miles per hour. Willie Allen rounds out the top five starters, also a career best, after running a 31.910 seconds/169.226 miles per hour lap in the No. 13 ThorSport Racing Chevrolet.
Cale Gale, Chase Miller, Ron Hornaday, Ted Musgrave and Erik Darnell round out the top ten.
Other notables include defending race winner Terry Cook in eleventh, Jack Sprague in 14th, Johnny Benson in 20th, Todd Bodine in 23rd, and Joe Ruttman in 27th.
The only incident of the qualifying session was a spin by Brendan Gaughan off of turn two on his first lap. He was able to turn around and complete his run, but was only able to turn the 33rd-fastest lap in qualifying.
The O'Reilly 250 is slated for a 6 P.M. Eastern green flag.
