Coming off of two wins in a row, Skinner and the No. 5 Toyota Tundra team were looking to keep their hot streak alive at Martinsville.
Running at the speedway where he received his first Nextel Cup ride back in 1986, Skinner was poised and ready to get the weekend underway. Able to maneuver his truck well during both practice sessions, Skinner was still looking for more out of his Tundra. Making some much needed adjustments, Skinner ended up fifth quickest during the final practice session on Friday.
Starting second at Martinsville last year and on the pole at the last race out in Atlanta, Skinner was somewhat optimistic about doing it again. Putting up a blistering lap of 19.728 sec at 95.98 mph, Skinner would capture his second pole of the year and the 34th of his career.
As the green flag waved over the field, Skinner would begin to show his domination. Even with his truck getting tighter by the second, Skinner continued to lead the field throughout the first 74 laps when the fourth caution flag would fly on lap 74.
Coming to pit road for four tires, fuel, an air pressure and a track bar adjustment, Skinner would restart in the second position on lap 81. Regaining the lead on lap 82, Skinner would quickly start driving away from the field.
Throughout the afternoon many drivers would get anxious and numerous caution flags would be displayed, however a frustrated Skinner would keep his cool and remain the leader. With one of the best cars he has ever driven, leading all but seven laps of the race, Skinner would win under a green-white checkered finish. Emerging with three consecutive victories, Skinner is the only man in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history to do it twice.
Skinner will lead the NCTS to Kansas Speedway after three weeks off next month. The race will be televised live Saturday, April 28th on SPEED.
