NASCAR Images, the internal production and creative services company of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), has been nominated for two Emmy Awards for the television program Beyond the Wheel. The 2006 Emmy Award nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences are for "Live Event Turnaround" and "Camera Work." Beyond the Wheel was also nominated in the Live Event Turnaround category in 2005.
Beyond the Wheel took television viewers inside the sport of NASCAR like no other previous show, turning the NASCAR race experience into a cinematic adventure. The program put fans in the cockpit and into the minds of a race team through a blend of film footage, team radio communication, dramatic music, and exclusive post-race interviews with the most important characters.
"The nominations for Beyond the Wheel are a tribute to the talented people at NASCAR Images who bring the sight, sound and emotion of NASCAR to race fans everywhere," said Jay Abraham, president of NASCAR Images. "We are honored that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognized the quality of the work by NASCAR Images, particularly alongside respected live events such as the Winter Olympics and the Tour de France."
The 28th Annual Sports Emmy Awards will be presented on Monday, April 30, in New York.
This season, Beyond the Wheel has evolved into Survival of the Fastest, a weekly NASCAR program airing on SPEED, which combines both Beyond the Wheel and 7 Days. Survival of the Fastest goes beyond the race and behind closed doors with NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams as they plan and prepare for competition. Deep on- and off-track access to teams and "fly on the wall" cinematography gives viewers a complete depiction of what it takes to compete in racing's top series. Survival of the Fastest can be seen during SPEED's pre-race programming block on Sunday mornings and airs multiple times throughout each weekend of the 2007 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season.
