Friday night's San Bernardino County 200 was raced under the lights at California Speedway. Todd Bodine, driving the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra, was among the top-drivers throughout the evening, particularly during the mid-section of the race when he could often be found between the third and fifth positions. Bodine finished fifth while Mike Skinner took the win, Toyota's second victory of the season.
"To look at the race recap, it doesn't look like we had as much going on out there as we did, but the racing in the top-five and top-ten was tough tonight," said Bodine, who found the mid-portion of the race to be the most competitive for the Lumber Liquidators Tundra.
Bodine qualified 23rd, after his team worked on countless chassis setups for his No. 30 Toyota Tundra.
"We really don't take time out of practice to worry too much about qualifying," said Bodine. "What we look at is how the truck is going to race. There are two laps of qualifying, and 100 laps of racing - I want to be better for the race."
What Bodine and his crew found this week was that their truck was very close, but just a bit shy of the fine-tuning that would put his truck in contention for the race victory.
"The truck started off a little tight, then ended up being too loose most of the night. We had the Tundra so close, but just couldn't find that extra change we needed to get the Lumber Liquidators Tundra in the hunt for the win tonight. With our Homestead test and this race, we've learned a lot and I'm looking forward to seeing how we can use it at Atlanta," said Bodine.
The season is very young, but Bodine and his Germain Racing crew are still showing their competition that they plan to be familiar faces among the front-runners this year. The team sits fifth in series points.
Mike Skinner's victory over Ron Hornaday Jr. is Toyota's second victory in as many races in the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
