McCumbee's California Dreams Don't Come True
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Chad McCumbee and the No. 08 theGPSStore.com / Garmin Chevrolet team headed to California for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event with a lot of hope and momentum stemming off of their 13th-place finish at Daytona. That momentum ran into a temporary wall at the flat, two-mile track on Friday night.

"It wasn't the outing that we were looking for, by any means," said McCumbee. "We had a little bit of trouble in the tech line. We didn't have trouble getting through the tech line; we just got a late start. Then we got rushed because of the threat of bad weather and ended up only getting about ten laps of practice in. That started the weekend off the wrong way, and we just never recovered from it."

The team qualified for the event in the 30th position, and throughout the race struggled to find the balance required to get to the front. The team kept working, but the laps kept winding down, and in the end the No. 08 had to settle for just gaining three spots and finishing in the 27th position.

"We were just trying to salvage a finish out of it. Late in the race we were running three wide, and another truck and I made contact. It was just racing, nothing really serious at all, not from my side anyway. I think the other driver may have spun out, but it was just a result of everyone trying really hard there at the end. It didn't really effect what was going to happen there. It may have tightened up the car a little aerodynamically, but we still probably would have finished the same had we not made the contact.

"All in all, it just wasn't the weekend that we were looking for," added McCumbee. "It was pretty disappointing. But we will get back to the shop and try and regroup and see if we can't improve on it. We are going back to a place (Atlanta Motor Speedway) that I am confident in, and I think the team is as well. We will get the team going back in the right direction and hopefully get our first top-five of 2007 at Atlanta."

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has the next two weeks off, and the next event will come on Friday, March 16th, at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the running of the American Commercial Lines 200.

Sponsorship opportunities for the 2007 season with Chad McCumbee and the No. 08 Green Light Racing team are still available. Be sure to stop by the all new www.chadmccumbee.com for information.
