Race Fever 2007 organizers are thrilled to announce that racing legend and broadcast celebrity Darrell Waltrip will participate in the annual fundraising event that benefits Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB). Race Fever 2007 will again be held in conjunction with the Aaron's Dream Weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, and is set for Friday, April 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the SPEED Channel Dome within the International Motorsports Hall of Fame complex.

Waltrip participated in the 2006 production of the event, encouraging more than 1,600 race fans from 36 states, England and Canada with his famous "Let's Go Racing!" overture as the auction began. When Race Fever 2006 ended, more than $200,000 was raised for AIDB's statewide programs.

"I've cleared my schedule for that part of the evening so I can fully participate in Race Fever 2007. It's a well-organized, high-energy event that through the coordination of AIDB, Talladega Superspeedway and the racing community has gained the commitment of many NASCAR drivers and celebrities for a worthy cause," Waltrip said. "I had a great time last year and am excited about coming back!"

Waltrip will join co-hosts, fellow NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Champion Ned Jarrett, legendary basketball coach Sonny Smith and auctioneer Phil Barkdoll for the 22nd annual Race Fever dinner and auction.

The list of NASCAR drivers who commit their time to the event each year seems to grow annually, with 28 participating in Race Fever last year. Some, like Bobby Labonte, have said that the AIDB event has become an annual part of their spring Talladega race weekend. Each year, drivers such as Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Kyle Petty, Joe Nemechek, Sterling Marlin, Dale Jarrett and Jeff Burton participate in Q&A sessions, sign autographs and visit with AIDB students and fans.

"The driver commitment each year is phenomenal," said Talladega Superspeedway Vice President/General Manager Rick Humphrey. "Their participation is critical to the success of the event, because Race Fever allows fans and sponsors to get 'up close and personal' with drivers while positively impacting children and their families experiencing deafness and blindness. It's a great event to be involved in - on any level."

In addition to time commitments, a growing list of unique memorabilia and experiences that will be available in the live and silent auctions can be viewed online by visiting www.talladegasuperspeedway.com and clicking the "Auction Items" listing on the right side of the home page. Race Fever to benefit AIDB began in 1986 when former NASCAR Chairman Bill France, Jr. organized the first event. Proceeds from the event benefit many classroom and dormitory needs of deaf and blind children and adults at AIDB.
