| Walker, No. 36 Toyota Review: Daytona
02-19-2007 | TruckSeries.com Report
Rookie Tyler Walker and the No. 36 360 OTC Toyota Tundra team headed to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway with new colors and high hopes. The rookie quickly proved in practice that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with from the beginning. The team made a few changes to its Toyota Tundra during practice, and Walker was soon able to run on the high and low sides of the track. After posting the fourth quickest time during the first practice session, Walker and Team Green were ready for Friday night's 100-lap race. When the first qualifying session of the 2007 season began, Walker calmly awaited his turn on the track. He posted a blistering lap in his 360 OTC Toyota Tundra, which was good enough to place him sixth on the starting grid. He was the highest qualifying rookie in the field. Walker took the green flag for the first time at Daytona Friday night. During the first 10 laps, he fell a few positions and ran 12th when the second caution flag of the evening waved on lap 10. Walker, along with the rest of the field, used the caution as an opportunity to take on fuel. After the restart, Walker began his charge to the front. Although he ran in the top 10, he soon was left without drafting help. He drove on the high side of the track, while the majority of the field headed to the inside lane. Walker quickly lost 20 positions. Unfortunately, Walker soon found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time on lap 24. With no place to go on the track, Walker was shoved into several trucks, which resulted in heavy damage to the 360 OTC Tundra. Among the damaged parts was the radiator, which the team quickly repaired behind the wall. Walker returned to the track on lap 70, but an engine problem forced him to retire early just a few laps later. The team was credited with a 31st-place finish. The team returns action this week at California Speedway, Walker's home track.
