In conjunction with February being Women's Heart Health Awareness month, the Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM) will help promote the Go Red for Women campaign during Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway.

The group will hand out red dress pins and pamphlets containing information about Heart Health awareness in the competitor areas at the speedway. The goal is to reach as many women within in the racing community as possible.

"We have really been looking for unique ways to reach the women associated with our sport", said Gaye Joy, President of WAM. "Daytona is one of our largest events of the year and many women are there. If we could help educate just a few that is worth the entire effort."

WAM continues to help promote causes that can educate and provide a healthier lifestyle for women, children, and their families. The organization's hope is by helping to deliver the message to get regular checkups, start moving, stop smoking, lose weight and watch your salt intake women will begin to lead healthier lives.

"One in three women will get heart disease, that is a fact", added Ann Schrader, WAM Board member and wife of NEXTEL Cup driver Ken Schrader. "When it comes to women's health issues most think of breast cancer. However, heart disease is the No. 1 killer among women. We need to educate our friends and then reach out to the masses."

For more information on Women's Heart Health and the Go Red for Women campaign please visit www.goredforwomen.org.

Go Red for Women is a nationwide movement celebrating the energy, passion and power we have to band together and wipe out heart disease. Too few people realize that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women -and of men - but the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. Spreading the Go Red for Women message empowers women to love - and save - their hearts through lifestyle choices and actions.

The Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. (WAM, Inc.), was established in 2004 with the merger of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary and the Busch Series Ladies Association. The Auxiliary's mission is to enrich the lives of women, children, and families through educational and wellness programs. In addition, the Women's Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. helps support organizations with likeminded missions and purposes. For more information on WAM please visit www.waminc.org.
