Toyota Race Notes: Homestead

11-17-2006 | TruckSeries.com Report

Todd Bodine, driver of the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra, clinched his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver's title with his finish in tonight's race. Bodine finished the 2006 season with three wins (Atlanta, St. Louis and Texas), one pole and 16 top-10s in the No. 30 Germain Racing Tundra.

Last year, Todd Bodine finished third in the NCTS championship point standings.

Johnny Benson, No. 23 Exide Batteries Tundra, Bill Davis Racing:
"I think we definitely had a shot at second-place. The No. 4 spun and instead of staying down on the track -- he rolled up the track. I still don't understand that -- and I hit him when he came back. Our truck wasn't very good, but I think it was good enough to make second. It's been a great season -- nothing to complain about. I thought the performance of our race team has been pretty good all year -- we had a couple of parts failures -- but other than that it was a good year."

Todd Bodine, No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra , Germain Racing:
"We've been racing for a lot of years -- Geoff and Brett -- and I have cousins racing and nephews that race, but this is the first time as a family that we've won something this important. This is so special -- you can't imagine what this means to me or my family. It's for everyone that helped me on my race cars ever. It paid off for you. So, thank you."

"We did what we had to do tonight. It's a shame that we had to race that way. At the very end, the tires were vibrating so bad I couldn't go any faster. But, I saw that Johnny (Benson) had problems and I knew that we were going to be alright. I just had to ride around and finish. Unfortunately, that's not our style, but that's what got it done tonight. I don't like to lay down. But, we had to tonight. We had to do what we did to get the job done, and that's what we did."

"You can't put it into words. It's just incredible. We got the best crew, we got the best owners in the Germains, and I have the Hillmans (Mike Sr. and Mike Jr.) on my side -- you can't ask for any more."
