This is Johnny Benson's fifth win this season in the No. 23 Bill Davis Racing Tundra. He has recorded wins this year at Phoenix, New Hampshire, Nashville, Milwaukee and Michigan.
Johnny Benson, No. 23 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Tundra, Bill Davis Racing:
"We had to work pretty hard for this one. I just really made a stupid move at the start. My truck was a little loose. I didn't expect it to be that loose. I drove it down in there and it was a little loose in turns one and two, and I thought it was going to be OK. But, I lost it and we came in and made some adjustments, and it was still too loose. Although, I felt a little better after the adjustments. I told Rick (Ren, crew chief) that we could get back up through here if you can give me good pit stops like all year. We felt that we could get back up to the front. I told Bill Davis I hope his heart feels good after that, because that was tough to do. My Tundra was great. It's a great day. I love Phoenix. This is a great race track. It's awesome to win five races this year. It was really good when we unloaded here, so I'm happy the results were good."
Were there any close calls during the race? "The whole race was challenging. Any time you have a truck that starts on the pole and you spin out, it's going to make for a challenging day. The first 15-20 laps were OK, then it kept getting harder and harder. Guys were racing you really hard, but that's what this series is all about. Guys race you tough, which makes this win so sweet."
How was it racing Mark Martin? "We got by Mark (Martin) pretty clean. I knew he would race us clean. He is one of the cleanest drivers out there. I figured if we got by him, I knew he wasn't going to run us out of the way. I raced him pretty clean and I knew he would do the same. Mark's was behind me in my Cup win and several of my truck wins."
Are you bringing this truck, which has four wins, to Miami? "No, we're bringing the other truck, the one that won the other race."
Todd Bodine, No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Tundra, Germain Racing:
"Johnny (Benson) and Rick (Ren, crew chief), congratulations to them. They are doing exactly what they need to do, winning races. Unfortunately for them, our team is doing exactly what we need to do, and that is finish in the top-five. We had a pretty decent Tundra. We were a little loose off all night. We had track position. You have to keep the big picture in mind. I didn't want to put myself in a position to be taken out. I wanted to keep my Tundra in one piece all night."
Are you thinking about winning the first title for the Bodine family? "Knock on wood, we still have a ways to go. It would be great for the family, but 112 points is quite a bit. If we have a miscue, a loose lug nut or a flat tire or someone getting into us, anything at Homestead and we finish in the back, and Johnny's going to win it. We have to do what we have to do, stay out of trouble and finish in the top-five, like we've been doing all year."
