Son of Two Time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Terry Labonte will Compete during Weekend of Father's Final Cup Race
Bill Davis Racing announced today that Justin Labonte will be behind the wheel of the No. 24 Dom-Ex Toyota Tundra in the Silverado 350k Nov. 3 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The event at Texas will mark Labonte's first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start, though the 25-year-old driver has 75 NASCAR Busch Series starts under his belt. Labonte drove to victory in that series at Chicagoland Speedway in 2004 and posted two top-10 finishes the following year. Most recently, Labonte has been competing in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
Labonte's debut in the Craftsman Truck Series comes on the same weekend his father, two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Terry Labonte, will make his final Cup Series start. The elder Labonte will conclude his storied career in his home state of Texas.
"Obviously, Texas has always been a special place for my family," Labonte said. "My dad hopes to make his final NEXTEL Cup start on Sunday, and there are a lot of things planned throughout the week leading up to the race and during the weekend to celebrate his career. It will be a special weekend for the whole family and for all of dad's fans. The opportunity to compete in the truck race with a Bill Davis-owned truck backed by Dom-Ex will give me a really good chance at making the weekend even more special by celebrating together with him and the family in victory lane."
"When we were approached with the opportunity to put Justin in the No. 24 Toyota Tundra in Texas, we couldn't see a down side to the situation," commented Team Owner and BDR President Bill Davis. "Justin certainly has the talent and ability to run competitively, and the No. 24 crew has proven they can get the job done as well. We're happy to be able to make what will certainly be an exciting weekend for the entire Labonte family even more special. NASCAR wouldn't be what it is today without Terry Labonte, and Justin deserves the chance to make the weekend even more extraordinary."
