Setzer Scores Top-Ten Finish in Inaugural Race at Talladega
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Dennis Setzer and the entire NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series put on quite a show in the very first truck race at Talladega Superspeedway. The carnage and multi-vehicle crashes that usually make up a race at the famed 2.66-mile Superspeedway were virtually non-existent. There were a few incidents, and penalties in the race, but for a majority of the day it was just some close, hard racing with Setzer bringing his No. 85 Shell ROTELLA T Silverado home in 10th position.

"Well you know we didn't qualify all that well but we were able to run up front with them all day and we're pretty impressed with that," said Setzer. "Randy Goss our crew chief says he'll make this No. 85 Shell Rotella Silverado better and I promise you he will."

Dennis had qualified in 26th position, but quickly made his way to the front, running in the top-ten by lap 20. The Randy Goss-led team made use of tire and fuel strategy to maintain and gain track position in their first two pit stops. But it was mostly steady, smart driving by the veteran that enabled him to stay out of trouble and bring the Shell ROTELLA T Silverado home to a decent finish.

This was Setzer's sixth race in the Shell primary paint scheme of seven that are scheduled for 2006. "We really want to take the Shell ROTELLA T Silverado to victory lane. It's a beautiful paint scheme, the Shell folks are great to work with, and we really would like to get a win for those guys," said Setzer. The final race with Shell ROTELLA T as primary sponsor will be at Phoenix International Raceway on November 10th. Shell will be associate sponsor on all other remaining NCTS races.

When asked about the track and the race, Setzer responded, "I was really impressed with how tame all the guys were out here today for the first 93 laps today. Our truck got loose there on the last lap, but its supposed to you know, because everyone went wide and I think I was back there in a five-wide deal. There were trucks going high, low and all over. That's what you're supposed to do there in the end of one of these races. I just hope everyone is okay, because I know a lot of those guys hit pretty hard on that last lap."

Dennis was able to avoid the final lap crash and with the 10th-place finish, moves his Morgan-Dollar team up to ninth place overall in the NCTS standings. Several good tracks are on the horizon for the No. 85 team including Martinsville and Texas, places where Dennis and Morgan-Dollar have scored wins.

The next race on the schedule for Dennis Setzer and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is at Martinsville Speedway on October 21st with the Kroger 200.
