Kerry Earnhardt, No. 13 Thorsport Chevrolet:
"We just broke a valve. The valve spring give out on us and put us out of the race. Luckily, our truck is still in one piece. I guess it's been old faithful for ThorSport racing for several years. It's called Miss Piggy and it's been a fast truck. Unfortunately, bad luck just follows us and we just fell out of the race. I think it's going to be a good race. Everybody's pretty calm out there and using their head quite a bit. I think it's going to be an exciting race for the fans but it's going to be a calm race, too."
Scott Lagasse Jr., No. 04 Hemi Dodge Dodge:
"We blew up. I think it's a development piece, something they were trying. I can't say anything bad about the guys at Arrington because they do a great job. We've always got good motors and have never had a problem. They wanted to try something here and they'll go back and figure it out. It didn't work. I learned that they did a great job with this racetrack. It's so smooth you're going to see a great race here with the trucks and with the Cup cars tomorrow. It's very, very easy to get in the middle and it's so much grip it doesn't move around a lot. Unfortunately, we were riding around in the back with The Plan. I just really started playing right there, just trying to learn the air because I don't know much about it besides talking to Bobby Sr. and Reed, David and Casey. I learned a little bit but definitely a shorter day than what we were wanting to do to learn."
Erik Darnell, No. 99 Northern Tool + Equipment Ford:
You finished the race and the truck is in one piece. "Yeah, the truck's in one piece. Our Northern Tool + Equipment F-150 was really good at the beginning of the race there. When I can get behind my teammate David Ragan or Mark Martin there too, we were real good. We could just go where we wanted to. Unfortunately we had a little bit of a mishap on a pit stop and didn't pit the first time out there. I think we had a lug nut get hung up and kind of got us put in the back there. Unless you had a ton of help, or unless you had somebody who was committed to going with you, it was hard to go anywhere in the back. We were just kind of riding around three-wide trying to make it back up there. All we could do is finish where we could."
Were you close to the last lap accident? "They were spinning and wrecking up there in front of us. I saw a bunch of smoke and everything but that was about it. I was on the bottom and we were able to go right by it without a problem."
Marcos Ambrose, No. 20 Team Australia/Aussie Vineyards Ford:
"We had a good day. We finished it. It was pretty wild there at the end. For some reason the truck wouldn't run on the bottom which is pretty much where I wanted to be and the best groove was really up top but then you get hung out to dry there every second or third lap so then you're forced to run the middle. Whenever you want to go forward you've got to run three-wide every corner. I think I need shot of bourbon or two after that day . We just hung in the back all day and just let a few things unfold in front of us, which happened. And then with 30 laps to go it was on. Everyone was coming back to the front. I've learned a lot. I'll go to Daytona next year with a lot more experience and a lot more knowledge. I feel like I moved around a little bit on the racetrack, which is good. I wasn't a pansy out there. I stuck my nose in a few times which you need to do to kind of let everyone know that you're serious about what you're doing out there. We had a good day."
How close were you to the big accident at the end of the race? "I went right underneath him, I think. The 40, he went in pretty hard on the nose and he spun up in the air. I saw him about three, four, five foot and climbing and I just braked and I went straight through the smoke. From my angle it looked like I went straight underneath him. I don't know what really happened but that's what it felt like."
Chad McCumbee, No. 08 The GPS Store/Garmin Chevrolet:
"We had a fuel pump issue. I'm sure it was probably a five-dollar part. It's just unfortunate, you know. We've had two DNFs and that's not like us but we've been having great motors, great parts all year so that's not our problem. We've got a string a bad luck and that's what happens. We'll regroup. We've got a truck to go back with. I was optimistic about our chances, not necessarily to win but we were going to come out I think with a top-10. I was real happy with the way we performed today. Let's just get that monkey off our back and go next week."
Bobby East, No. 21 State Fair Corndogs/Edy's Dibs Ford:
"We cut a tire and ran over some debris. But man, that truck was so fast. I think we started 22nd and I think we were fifth probably lap 10. We had some misfortunes in the pits and we had to restart in the back and we got back up to like fifth again but we cut a tire, ruined the fenders and that was it. That was the end of our day."
Aric Almirola, No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet:
"When we had drafting help we ran well. We didn't have drafting help most of the time. It was just so tough out there. Our truck wasn't good enough to lead and it definitely wasn't good enough to make runs on people and try to pass by myself. It was a frustrating day for sure. It was a big chess match but every time I made a move it was the wrong move. At one point it seemed like the bottom lane was the fast lane. I stuck down there and get passed and then it seemed like the top was better and I'd go up there and we'd go backwards. It was like bumper to bumper traffic on a freeway and it just makes you made because you pick the wrong lane and it stops."
How close were you to that last accident? "I was a little bit behind it. I saw it coming and I just rolled out of the throttle to miss it. There was nothing to gain."
Boston Reid, No. 25 Woodard Racing Dodge:
"We cut a right-rear tire at Daytona and we just cut a left rear tire here. I don't think the two instances have a connection but it happened so we've got to figure out what's going on. It's two different trucks so we'll see. The guys did good. We had great pit stops in the pits and we had good strategy. We weren't where we quite needed to be. We're just trying to get out of here on our own and being smart. It wasn't meant to be. We hit pretty good but it was just a deal where thank goodness for the 33-degree banking because when you slide up that high it slows you down. We're okay. We'll go back and fix it and try to bring it to Daytona next year."
