Boston Reid and the No. 25 Woodard Racing Dodge crew finished 33rd at the new Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS) on Saturday night. A promising run was cut short by a broken oil pump belt.

Due to the new banking at LVMS teams were given a Friday test session on the 1.5 mile oval, in addition to the normal practice sessions that precede qualifying. Reid and crew chief Tim Weiss took full advantage of the extra time and gains were evident after each run. Reid picked up the pace even further in the qualifying session as he toured the track at a 30.91 sec. clip. That gave him a 21st starting spot and a good feeling for the race.

"We were a little on the loose side in qualifying, but that is how you like to start a race, especially one that ends under the lights because you tend to get a little tighter," said Reid.

When the green flag dropped it was evident Reid had a truck he could work with. It only took a few laps before he had his Dodge Ram knocking on the door of the top-15.

After developing an "aero push," Weiss decided to bring Reid down pit road, with the rest of the lead lap trucks, following a lap 25 caution. After chassis adjustments, two tires and fuel, he restared the race in the 21st position and again wasted no time in setting himself up for a top-15 finish.

Electing to stay out during cautions at laps 33 and 52, Reid found himself running in the eighth position and on a pit sequence with most of the front running trucks. Another caution on lap 75 brought Reid and the rest of the leaders to pit road where, after originally believing they had a steering problem, the broken oil pump belt was discovered and their night ended.

Reid on his solid run cut short: "It's disappointing because we had a truck that could have finished in the top-15 and to finish 33rd kind of stings. We were really good by ourselves, but in traffic I would pick up a terrible aero push. Tim and the guys were making it better and I was really looking forward to the changes that were coming on our next stop, but that is when we found the broken belt. You hate to get beat by one of the most inexpensive parts on the whole truck, but that's racing."

Reid on the new LVMS: "They have built a really great track out here, I absolutely love it. You have a ton of room to race with the progressive banking. These trucks knock such a big hole in the air that the draft came into play a bunch for us, especially at the speeds we were turning."
