Broken Shaft in Carburerator Foils Great Run for Bowyer at loudon

In the early laps of the New England 200 Clint Bowyer, No. 46 SKF Silverado looked to be the Silverado to beat.

After qualifying fifth, Bowyer quickly made noise in the front of the field running in the top-three and taking the lead on lap 41 from eventual race winner Johnny Benson.

Bowyer continued his strong run battling with Benson for the lead. When he pitted under the third caution of the race, the Eric Phillips led Morgan-Dollar Motorsports crew had a lightning quick stop to change four tires, add fuel and get Bowyer back out third in the order.

However, on lap 61, Bowyer radioed the crew that the No. 46 Silverado was missing and he was switching ignition boxes in the truck to see if that corrected the problem. When nothing changed and Bowyer began losing positions, the crew elected to keep Bowyer on track hoping for another caution. While the team was waiting for a yellow, they prepared to change the ignition panel with all necessary parts and tools spread on pit wall to accomplish the task as quickly as possible.

When Bowyer came down pit road, the crew immediately detected that the engine was idling much to fast and the problem was not electrical but in fact, was in the carburetor. Despite having to pull the spare carburetor from the crash cart, the crew changed the carburetor but unfortunately lost four laps in the process.

A broken throttle shaft in the carburetor was the cause of the problem.

The truck was clearly still one of the fastest trucks on the track, but Bowyer, not running for points, respected the NCTS competitors battling for the win and championship points relegating him to the 25th finishing position.

Bowyer will return to the cockpit of the No. 46 Silverado with the familiar colors of Jack Daniels on the hood at Texas Motor Speedway on November 3, 2006.

Clint Bowyer Quotes:
"It is just too bad that we had the mechanical problem with the carburetor because the SKF Silverado was fast and I had a great time out there. The crew did an awesome job getting the truck fixed and getting us back out there, I just didn't want to get in anyone's way who is running for points in the Truck series. The Morgan-Dollar team is a great team and I can hardly wait until Texas to get back in the truck."
