Ron Hornaday drove the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet to a 14th-place finish in May at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway (RIR). Hornaday has nine career Busch Series starts at RIR, with a best finish of seventh in 2003. Hornaday also has six career NASCAR Truck Series starts at RIR, with two runner-up finishes.
Ron Hornaday will look to build on the momentum he gained two weeks ago at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway where he finished third. Hornaday's third-place finish was his best finish of the 2006 Busch Series season. Hornaday has 10 Busch Series starts to date in 2006. Hornaday is also coming off of one week of rest as he did not compete in the Busch Series race at California Speedway and the NASCAR Truck Series had the week off as well.
Ron Hornaday made his first start at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway (RIR) in September of 1995 in a NASCAR Truck Series event. He started fourth and finished 15th in that event. Hornaday made his first Busch Series start at RIR in May of 2000, he started 11th and finished 17th in that race. Hornaday has made at least one start each year in one of NASCAR's premier divisions since 1995.
The NASCAR Busch Series will take a well deserved week off following the race at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. Teams will return to competition in two weeks at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. All three of NASCAR's premier divisions will be in competition that weekend. KHI crew chief Wally Rogers will take on double-duty that weekend, calling both the Truck and Busch Series races at Dover, Del. Starting in Dover, Del., the NASCAR Busch Series schedule has just seven races remaining in the 2006 season.
Did you know?: KHI owner and driver Kevin Harvick has thee wins in 11 starts at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway (RIR). Harvick has won the last two Busch Series races at RIR. Harvick has seven top-five and eight top-10 finishes at RIR in the Busch Series. Harvick is currently leading the NASCAR Busch Series point standings by 567 points over second-place.
Driver: Ron Hornaday
Will the spring race at RIR help you out this weekend? "We had a decent race car in May at Richmond (Va.), but we didn't get the finish we wanted. I really like Richmond (Va.), and I think the Outdoor Channel Chevrolet should be fast there this weekend. Richmond (Va.) is my kind of race track, its short track racing at its best."
Can you build on momentum from Bristol? "The Outdoor Channel Chevrolet was great at Bristol (Tenn.) last weekend and the team put together a great effort. Wally (Rogers) and all the guys really work their guts out putting together fast race cars for me to drive. It's really a pleasure to drive these things and hopefully we'll have another great run this weekend."
Crew Chief: Wally Rogers
The team has run well in the past month, can you point out one thing? "I think the biggest thing is that we haven't put ourselves behind the eight ball like we had earlier in the year. We've had good runs in the car with all the drivers and each week we gain momentum and get better and better. The guys working on the Outdoor Channel Chevrolet have done a great job."
Is RIR a Hornaday style track? "Hornaday is good no matter what track we go to, but he really seems to excel at short tracks. Some people call Richmond (Va.) the perfect short track. I've seen Ron run a ton of laps at Richmond and I've called a few races for him there as well. If we give him a good car, he'll take care of the rest."
