After a hard-hitting race last weekend at Indianapolis, Chad Chaffin came into Nashville determined to have a successful weekend. Kicking a good weekend off he placed in the top 20, qualifying with a 16th place starting position. It was evident that Chad's determination paid off throughout the beginning of race as he proved that he could consistently run with the front of the pack. Early in the race, Chad and the Harris Trucking Motorsports team realized they had a dominant truck on long runs, however, the late caution flags kept Chad from finishing in the top 10.
During the first 75 laps of the Toyota Tundra 200, Chad found himself as high as the 5th position, eventually settling into the top 10. His truck was outstanding on long runs, but in the second half of the race there seemed to be a caution every time Chad's truck would start to come to him. He really struggled getting the No. 59 truck up to speed in the first stages of green flag runs after a restart, causing him to lose most of the positions he had gained. "We were just down on horsepower. The restarts were what killed us. I really needed a long green flag run in order to gain positions," Chad commented.
With a good run going during the last 30 laps of the race, the No. 59 Eaton Dodge was inching its way back into the top 10 when another late race caution caused the Toyota Tundra 200 to end under green, white, checkered conditions. This caution was not what Chad needed! Crew chief, Danny Rollins, made the call to come in for a pit stop in an effort to improve the truck and gain some positions on the restart. The team made some minor adjustments on the truck along with four fresh tires. After the pit stop, Chad came back on the track as the last truck on the lead lap. With just two laps left in the race, Chad was able to improve his finishing position by moving up one spot to the 15th position. After the race Chad felt, " it is always a good day when you can finish in the top 15 and take home a clean truck."
Harris Trucking Motorsports had a number of guests in the pits this weekend. Eaton Corporation, the team's primary sponsor, had several representatives in attendance. Eaton is a leading manufacturer and total systems integrator of hydraulic and motion control components and systems. HT Motorsports and Chad Chaffin, "Really appreciate all the support from Eaton and their employees."
The Craftsman Truck series heads to Bristol Motor Speedway next week for the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200. Tune in to watch live coverage of Chad on Wednesday, August 23, at 9pm on SPEED.
