Boston Reid and the crew of the No. 25 Woodard Racing Dodge are quietly starting to find the consistency to go with their talent. Their 14th place finish at the Nashville Superspeedway tied the team's best finish this year and capped off a very solid weekend, despite some adversity.
Reid toured the 1.3 mile oval at 30.424 sec. in the early practice session, good enough for 14th on the scoring pylon. During practice, however, Reid ran over some heavy debris, cracking the nose of the Dodge Ram just below the grill. That, coupled with rain in the area, cut the team's practice time considerably.
But Reid would bounce back during his qualifying effort, picking up significantly from practice with a lap of 30.150 sec., putting him 18th in the field of 36 trucks; the team's best qualifying effort of the year.
At the drop of the green flag it was obvious that crew chief Mark Nelson had given Reid a truck that was capable of running up front. After getting shuffled back in the field early in the race, Nelson called Reid down pit road during a caution on lap 23; putting the Woodard Racing Dodge on a different pit cycle than the rest of the leaders. Good pit strategy would pay off as Reid found himself in the top-five for the second time in his short truck series career.
But the team would still have to overcome more obstacles to earn tie their season best finish. After dodging a mid-race wreck, Reid was forced to go through the grass, further damaging the broken nose he suffered during practice. With no front down force, the Dodge became exceptionally tight for the remainder of the race, forcing Nelson to make several chassis adjustments in an effort to loosen Reid's truck for the end of the race.
But in the end, Reid did a masterful job of wheeling the hobbled No. 25 Dodge Ram to his third top-15 finish of the year.
Boston on His 14th-place run at Nashville:
"Nashville was a good day. We got our career-best qualifying effort and tied our season best finish. We're just frustrated because we had a better truck than where we finished. I had to make a maneuver and go through the grass and when I did, we knocked part of the nose off. After that happened, we lost most of our aerodynamic down force. But it was a good point's day for us, we moved into the top-20. We're starting to gain some momentum as we near the end of the season. We're getting our motor program figured out and our trucks are getting faster every weekend. I can't thank Rick (Woodard) and everyone on this team enough for all the hard work they've put into this team so far this year."
Mark Nelson's Comments after the Race:
"A lot of us our disappointed because we know we had a better truck than where we finished. But to have a bad day and still finish in the top-15 says a lot about how far we have come."
