Jet-Powered Outhouse to Attempt World Record
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Port-O-Jet, the world's only jet-powered outhouse, will attempt to establish a world speed record during the Circle K Monster Truck Bash Saturday night at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway.

One of the most unique vehicles on four wheels, the standard-size portable toilet-which began life as a Country Classic model from Wisconsin-based Hampel Corporation-has been fitted with a Boeing jet engine and is capable of straight-line speeds approaching 50 mph.

With driver Mike Terry, of Bloomington, Ind., strapped to the "seat," Port-O-Jet will attempt to break its own world speed record for one lap around a four-tenths-mile clay oval. The machine set the mark in 2002 during its world debut at The Dirt Track, circling the oval at an average speed of 34.72 mph.

In addition to Port-O-Jet, fans will watch in amazement as Crunch Time, a massive International truck powered by a 17,000-horsepower Westinghouse J-34 jet engine, uses its afterburner to turn a car and then a school bus into piles of smoldering rubble.

Saturday night's Circle K Monster Truck Bash also features eight of the world's top Monster Trucks, including Avenger, Brutus, Equalizer and Predator. The trucks will battle in a series of one-on-one elimination races over an obstacle course, participate in a Long Jump contest and conclude the car-crushing evening with a radical freestyle competition.

The wild-and-wacky CRASHCars will also be in action, competing in a pair of 10-lap heat races and a 20-lap finale before hitching to trailers for the Trailer Race of Destruction.

The Circle K Monster Truck Bash begins with the Circle K Pre-Race Pit Party where fans can meet the Monster Truck drivers, get autographs and have their pictures taken alongside the gargantuan machines. Fans presenting an event ticket along with a 16-ounce Monster Energy drink container will be admitted to the Circle K Pit Party beginning at 4 p.m. Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and the Pit Party runs through 6:30. On-track action starts at 7:30 p.m.
