McCumbee, No. 07 Chevy Review: Indianapolis
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

SS Racing teamed up with Green Light Racing on Friday night for the Power Stroke Diesel 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Race at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind.  Sponsors ASI LIMITED, Akzo Nobel and Spectrum Metal Finishing were primary sponsors on the No. 07 truck driven by Robert Turner and associate sponsors on the No. 08 driven by Chad McCumbee.

Turner started 34th and brought home a very hard fought 26th place in only his second ever Truck Series Race.  McCumbee started 32nd and drove to a solid 17th place finish.  It was McCumbee's 14th start in the series.  The hometown race for ASI LIMITED, parent company to SS Racing, was an exciting event full of fun and hospitality for several key people from ASI LIMITED, Spectrum Metal and Akzo Nobel.

The day began with a lunch at the state of the art ASI LIMITED corporate offices located just a fifteen minute drive from the race track.  The special guests toured the corporate office and the ornamental metals manufacturing building.  Their tour ended at the SS Racing team facility with an up-close look at SS Racing's throwback paint schemed race car, driven by short track racing legend, Butch Miller.

The day began to heat up when the group visited Indianapolis Motor Speedway, one of the most famous racing tracks in world.  From the infield they watched the NASCAR Cup Series drivers practice for the Brickyard 400.  The next and final stop was at O'Reilly Raceway Park for private hospitality and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Race.

The night was capped off by some exciting short track racing at one of the highest competition levels in NASCAR.  Veteran driver, Rick Crawford won the race, but for Ken Smith, President of SS Racing and ASI LIMTED, the event was a win for everyone.  "We had a great time with good food, good racing and great people," said Smith.  "It was an opportunity for several of us that work together to get out of the office and get to know each other better through a fun and exciting environment."

SS Racing has now run three NASCAR Craftsman Truck races this year.  Currently there are no further Craftsman Truck Races on the schedule.  However, the team is reviewing the remainder of the 2006 season, which could include some CTS races.  Their primary race team competes in Late Model Stock cars across the nation.  In all, SS Racing will compete in nearly 50-races this year.
