Reutimann Shines in Night of Stars and Wins First Shootout

David Reutimann won the first of two 10-lap Dirt Modified shootouts during Ken Schrader's annual M&M's Night of Stars at I-55 Raceway Wednesday night. Reutimann finished fifth in the second race to Kenny Wallace.

"I've always read about the race and saw highlights on TV and finally Kenny (Schrader) was gracious enough to let me be a part of the deal," Reutimann said. "It was a first class operation and it was an awesome night. I couldn't have had a better time. The people were great and Kenny is cool anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I want to go back every year until they quit doing it."

Reutimann smoked everyone in the first event, but the second race was another story.

"In the first race, I took the lead right away and checked out on them," Reutimann said. "My dad was there and he had his new David Reutimann Toyota truck shirt on. He was proud I was doing well and showing his shirt off. Then in the second race, I spun out once by myself and then got together with another car and spun out again. He said that he took his shirt off and turned it inside out so nobody could read it. That's my dad. He's been a huge part of my career. The only thing that could have made the night better is if he could've got to race too."

Today Reutimann travels to Indianapolis to help Wayne Reutimann Jr. prepare for the USAC Silver Crown Series event at O'Reilly Raceway Park tonight. Reutimann Jr. scored his first victory of the season at the Milwaukee Mile recently.

"I'm going to help my cousin today," said Reutimann. "He won at Milwaukee. I'm going to be there to hang out and help with what I can. He has a good operation. I don't ever get a chance to see him race. I'm looking forward to that."

Reutimann prepares for a busy weekend himself at the .686-mile oval as he looks to maintain second-place in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings while trying to make gains on points leader Todd Bodine. Next on his agenda is topping his best NASCAR Busch Series finish of sixth-place, which occurred at Nashville Superspeedway in June.

"We're trying to catch Todd," Reutimann said. "We've got quite of few races left. Hopefully, we can gain on him this weekend. I have a couple truck starts there, but I've never run a Busch car there. Jerry Baxter and the guys are great and my truck guys have been awesome all year too. I hope we all have a good weekend."
