H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, took the hot seat Thursday night during a taping of "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me," National Public Radio's popular news game show.

In front of a sold-out crowd at the Belk Theater in Charlotte, N.C., Wheeler was the celebrity contestant in a segment known as "Not My Job," the point of which is to subject writers, politicians, corporate CEOs and other professionals to questions far outside their fields of expertise.

The "Wait Wait.Don't Tell Me" episode, which also includes quips from panelists Paula Poundstone, Mo Rocca and Kyrie O'Connor, will air Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. on WFAE, Charlotte's NPR affiliate.

After a colorful interview conducted by show host Peter Sagal, the well-read Wheeler was quizzed on the topic of competitive eating. Questions about the world of professional gluttony drew groans and suggested answers from the audience, but the auto racing promoter that many know as the "P.T. Barnum of Motorsports" took it in stride.

"I applied logic to the situation and came up with my answers,"Wheeler said. "Unfortunately, competitive eating defies logic and I got all three questions wrong."

"Wait Wait" announcer and legendary radio newsman Carl Kasell, a longtime acquaintance of Wheeler, declared the results to be "a perfect score: zero." Because his performance cost an at-home listener her prize-Kasell's bass voice recording her answering machine message-Wheeler said he would send the Charlotte woman two tickets to the speedway's Bank of America 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Saturday night, Oct. 14.
