07-20-2006 | TruckSeries.com Report
Talladega Superspeedway is joining 12 other tracks to participate in the nationwide NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive this September. Talladega Superspeedway's drive is set for Sept. 11, 2006 at the track, and will be called "Talladega Superspeedway Laps For Life." Those wishing to give during Talladega Superspeedway's drive may do so by simply showing up, but are asked to pre-register by visiting www.nascar.com/foundation. "We take pride in being part of this effort, because it will not only make a big difference within our immediate community, but also on a national level," said Talladega Superspeedway Vice President and General Manager Rick Humphrey. "We urge all of our fans to register for the drive and join us in this noble cause of saving lives." "We are excited about our new partnership with the NASCAR Foundation, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, the Hendrick Marrow Program and our new sponsor Talladega Superspeedway," said Mark Beddingfield, CEO of the American Red Cross Alabama and Central Gulf Coast Blood Region. "This is a great opportunity for the American Red Cross and race fans everywhere. The September 11th Talladega Superspeedway Laps for Life Blood and Marrow Drive is sure to be a powerful experience for all involved." The NASCAR Foundation, in partnership with Hendrick Marrow Program and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation announced last month at Michigan International Speedway that it would build upon the success of MIS's annual Spirit of America 500 Blood Drive by providing unique experiences at many different tracks that bring out the goodwill and community pride in all race fans. In addition to giving blood, fans are also encouraged to join the National Marrow Donor Program(r) Registry of volunteer marrow donors. Everyday, thousands of patients with life-threatening diseases that could be treated with a marrow transplant are searching the Registry for a donor. Other participating tracks and organizations are: Michigan International Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Pocono Raceway, Richmond International Raceway, Watkins Glen and Hendrick Motorsports.
