The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series uses a simple points system to determine its champion and top finishers. All drivers who compete in events earn points toward the series championship provided they enter the race before the entry deadline. Five bonus points will be awarded to each driver who officially leads a race, five additional points will be awarded to the driver leading the official most laps; and five additional points will be awarded to the race winner. In event of ties, duplicate points will be awarded. The driver point standings are determined using the following scale: 1st - 175 2nd - 170 3rd - 165 4th - 160 5th - 155 6th - 150 7th - 146 8th - 142 9th - 138 10th - 134 11th - 130 12th - 127 13th - 124 14th - 121 15th - 118 16th - 115 17th - 112 18th - 109 19th - 106 20th - 103 21st - 100 22nd - 97 23rd - 94 24th - 91 25th - 88 26th - 85 27th - 82 28th - 79 29th - 76 30th - 73 31st - 70 32nd - 67 33rd - 64 34th - 61 35th - 58 36th - 55 Race Procedures - The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will utilize an "open pit stop" format in 2006. Teams may pit for service during those times when NASCAR opens pit road. Tire management policies (number of tires available to teams) will be announced at each event. Races will end with at least two laps of green flag competition whenever practical. Restarts, prior to the final 10 laps of competition, will be two abreast with lead lap trucks in one lane and laps-down trucks in the other. With 10 or fewer laps remaining, lead-lap trucks will start single file ahead of trucks one or more laps behind. Provisional Starting Positions - NASCAR will implement the following procedure for establishing the starting race field in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR has changed the system by simplifying the procedure with teams no longer accruing provisionals throughout the season to gain entry into the starting fields. While starting positions one through 35 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series still will be determined by qualifying speed, the new system will assure the highest-ranked 30 positions of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owner championship points that have entered the event prior to the entry deadline one of those starting positions in the field, providing they have made an attempt to qualify. The remaining five positions will be assigned to those drivers with the fastest qualifying speeds whose truck owners are not among the top 30. The final starting position - the champion's provisional - can be utilized by a truck owner whose driver is a current or past NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion who participated as a driver during their 2004 season and was entered in the event for that owner in that car prior to the entry deadline. If there is more than one series champion vying for the position, it will be given to the most recent series champion. If the final provisional starting position - 36th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series - is not filled by a current or past series champion, it will be assigned to the next eligible truck owner according to qualifying results. Through the first four races of the season for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the top 30 of the 2005 owner championship points entered in the event prior to the entry deadline will be assured one of the starting positions in the field, provided they have made an attempt to qualify. In addition, the owner's entry must have made an attempt to qualify in all 25 events in 2005 to be eligible for one of those 30 positions. From the fifth race on, the highest-ranked 30 positions of the current owner championship points will be assured one of those positions as long as their entry has made an attempt to qualify in the previous 2006 events up to that point. In the event that conditions prevent qualifying from being run, starting positions will be assigned according to the respective series' 2006 Rule Book.
