Kelly Sutton, who was taken to a local Kansas City hospital following a crash in Saturday's O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway, did not suffer any significant injuries as a result as was originally reported.
"That's what everyone was worried about was a broken rib and possibly a broken elbow," said Sutton's crew chief Gary Showalter. "By the time they got done looking at her Saturday night they diagnosed her with a bruised rib and a bruised leg."
TruckSeries.com reported following the race that Sutton had indeed broken her arm and a rib in the crash. The accident occurred on lap 105 of the 167-lap race, resulting in a nine and a half minute red flag period to extricate Sutton from her No. 02 Sutton Motorsports Chevrolet and to extinguish a grass fire left in the wake of the incident. She was seen at the infield car center before being transporter to the KU Med Center for further tests, which were negative.
"When they left the track that was the big worry," Showalter said. "The doctors were concerned that she had broken her arm and that the pain she was feeling in her ribs was that she had broken one. We are all very relieved it's nothing more than bruises. If she receives her clearance for this weekend, she'll be back in the truck at Kentucky. She has to see the doctors again on Wednesday and if they are happy with everything they'll give her clearance to race."
Sutton was released from Kansas University Medical Center on Sunday, July 2, 2006 at approximately 3 pm Central Time.
