Chris Wimmer returned to his home state of Wisconsin on his 27th Birthday with high expectations of a top 15 finish in the "Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200" at The State Fair Park Milwaukee Mile.
With a disappointing first practice session of only 13 laps and only a fast lap of 31.117 (115.692 mph) that was good for only 34th fastest, the crew went to work to try and dial in the Generac Power Systems No. 08 Chevrolet. After missing half of the second practice session Wimmer returned to the track. After completing 17 practice laps Wimmer improved his practice time to a 30.400 (118.421 mph) good enough for the 17th fastest position.
When it was time for qualifying the Generac Powers Systems Chevrolet was so loose Wimmer had a hard time keeping it straight on the track. He qualified a disappointing 37th place. With this being an impound race the crew could not do any adjustments before the start of the race.
After the green flag flew Wimmer started the race with hopes of making changes during the cautions to tighten the # 08 Chevy Silverado up. The first caution flew on lap 2 for debris on the track. Wimmer ducked into the pits to take tap off the grill. The truck was starting to overheat. Wimmer moved up one spot to the 33rd position.
The caution flag flew again on lap 36 when the 02 of Kelly Sutton spun. Wimmer headed to the pits again for more adjustments. He was now battling a tight truck. On lap 76 the caution flew for a third time when Bobby Hamilton spun. Wimmer was still battling a tight truck.
The Generac Power Systems Chevrolet had started to improve when on lap 111 Wimmer's truck stalled through corners 1 & 2 sending the caution out for the 7th time. Something was wrong with the engine and Wimmer was unable to restart the truck and had to end his night early dropping him to a disappointing 36th place finish.
Wimmer on Milwaukee: "It was fun to be back at the Milwaukee Mile to race again for Bobby Dotter and Green Light Racing. I wish that we could have had a better qualifying run and a better finish but that's how it goes sometimes. We had a fast truck in the second practice session and we should have qualified in the top 15. I don't know what went wrong but the truck was so loose it was almost impossible to drive. Starting at the back of the pack takes along time to work to the front. Unfortunately we had engine trouble.
I want to thank my Wisconsin sponsors Generac Power Systems, Campus Pub, Philly's Subs and Gyros, Leo's Upper Dells Bar and Foamation for being onboard with me this weekend. Without their support I wouldn't beable to be here. We had a lot of family and friends here this weekend and it was great to spend time with them.
