It was tough weekend for Ted Musgrave and his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra Team as they finished Friday's Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 with a 24th place finish. Musgrave did all he could to bring his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota home with a solid finish, but it was not meant to be as Ted battled an ill handling race truck all race long.
Musgrave started Friday's Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 in the 13 th spot. His truck was free early on in the race, so when the second caution came out on lap-38 Musgrave brought his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota in the pits for a right spring rubber, four tires, and fuel. The field went back to green flag action on lap-41. By lap-50 Musgrave's No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra was getting very tight but he remained in the 15 th spot. The third caution flag of the race flew on lap-78 and Musgrave brought his Tundra into the pits for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. On lap-81 Musgrave restarted in the 21st spot, but he was not there very long as he worked his way up to 16th by lap-91. With his truck handling a little better Musgrave made his way up to 11 th by lap-100.
Musgrave raced all the way to seventh by lap-112, right behind his teammate, Todd Bodine. The seventh caution came out on lap-115 as Musgrave pitted for fuel, four tires and a slight track bar adjustment. When the field went back to green flag action Musgrave restarted the race in the 11 th position. As the laps counted down Musgrave's No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra got looser and looser and he slowly started losing positions. By lap-135 he had fallen back to the 25th spot. Musgrave needed a caution and it came on lap-168. Ted came in the pits for four tires, fuel, and a wedge adjustment. Bad luck fell on Musgrave as he was caught speeding down pit road, which pushed him back to the tail end of the longest line for the restart of the race. Musgrave did he could with his truck but ended up finishing a lap down and in 24th place.
"I struggled early on in the race. My truck was just to free," said Ted Musgrave. "During my second pit stop we made a track bar adjustment and that seemed to work. My No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra started to come around and I was able to work my way up to the top-10 position. I came in the pits on lap-113 and Tom Ackerman and the guys tweaked the track bar. When I went back to racing my truck, for whatever reason, went south from that point on. It was just one of those nights - nothing seemed to go our way. It's pretty frustrating to be leaving any race with a poor finish, but it's even more frustrating for me to be leaving Milwaukee with bad finish."
Musgrave's 24th place finish slipped him back to fourth in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver's points standings. He now trails his teammate and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point's leader, Todd Bodine by 198-points. Musgrave is only 68-points behind third place driver, Johnny Benson and 72-points behind second place driver, David Reutiman.
