Peters Finishes Sixth at Milwaukee

Timothy Peters (Ronda Greer Photo)

Timothy Peters went to The Milwaukee Mile with a mission to finish in the top-10 for the first time this season and he did just that. Peters started in the 29th position and worked his way through the field to bring home the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge sixth in the Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race. It was the team's second consecutive finish inside the top-10.

"I knew I had to come to Milwaukee and have a good finish," Peters said after climbing from the truck. "We struggled a little bit during practice, but I keep telling my crew chief the truck was good. I was not fast, but I knew the handling of the truck was just what I needed in the race. We qualified toward the back of the pack so I had my work cut out for me from the start. On the last pit stop we were able to take on sticker tires and that made a huge difference. I was able to pass 10 trucks to finish in the top-10 for the first time this season. This race was a huge step in the right direction for the No. 4 Dodge Motorsports team."

  • Peters qualified in the 29th position earlier in the afternoon.
  • The first caution waved on lap two for debris. Peters said, "I am little tight, but other than that she is perfect." He restarted in the 27th position.
  • By lap 20 Peters' crew was notifying him lap by lap he was the fastest truck on the track. Spotter Kip McCord reminded Peters, "You have a great truck and remember be patient going through traffic."
  • The second caution came out 16 laps later and Crew Chief Danny Gill made the call to come down pit road. The Dodge Motorsports Racing Team changed all four tires, added fuel and went down two rounds on the track bar to aid the tight condition. He restarted in the 21st position on lap 41.
  • By lap 65 Peters had worked his way to 17th position. 11 laps later the third caution waved and Peters came back down pit road to the attention of his team. They changed all four tires, added fuel and made a wedge adjustment to loosen Peters up. He restarted in the 19th position.
  • On lap 91 the fifth caution came out, but Crew Chief Gill made the call to stay out and not come down pit road. Peters restarted in the 22nd position.
  • At the halfway point of the event Peters was running in the 19th position.
  • On lap 114 another caution came out and Peters came down pit road for fuel only. Spotter McCord reminded him he was going to have to save his tires and make them last till we can pit with about 40 to go.
  • Immediately following the restart the caution came out. Peters stayed out while many competitors chose to come down pit road. He restarted in the 5th position.
  • By lap 160 Peters was comfortably riding in the 10th position. The final caution came out seven laps later. Peters came down pit road and the Dodge Motorsports Dodge Racing Team performed a lighting fast pit stop. They changed all four tires, added only seven gallons of fuel and went up two rounds on the track bar. The No.4 Dodge Motorsports team was the only team on pit road to still have sticker tires. He restarted in the 16th position.
  • In the final 25 laps Peters was passing trucks almost every lap. He was able to work his way to the sixth position. It was the team's second consecutive top-10 finish and Peter's first top-10 finish the season.

Johnny Benson won the Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200. Mike Bliss finished second, and Ron Hornaday Jr., Jack Sprague and Davis Reutimann rounded out the top five.  The next event for the NCTS competitors is at Kansas City Speedway on July 1st.
