| Musgrave Snake Bit at Michigan
06-19-2006 | TruckSeries.com Report
Bad luck found Musgrave at Michigan as he and his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra Team were involved in an early race incident with the No. 15 truck of Kyle Krisiloff in Saturday's Con-Way Freight 200 at Michigan International Speedway to finish in the 23 rd spot. Things were looking up for Ted Musgrave and his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra team early on in the Con-Way Freight 200. The team started in the 32nd spot and worked their way up to 21st by lap-10. Then Musgrave slowly raced his way up through the field and by lap-40 had made it all the way up to the eighth position. On lap-60 Musgrave was in the top-10 and was running low coming off of turn three when he and the No. 15 of Kyle Krisiloff made contact, which spun Musgrave sideways. Ted had a whale of job in holding on to the No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra but wound up driving into the grass causing damage to the front of his Tundra. With a much needed caution coming on lap-69 Musgrave brought his No. 9 Team ASE Toyota Tundra in for repairs to the front of his truck as well as four tires, and fuel. Musgrave came back in the pits while the race was still under caution on lap-70 and the crew went back to work on the front of Musgrave's Tundra. With his truck badly damaged aero-wise Musgrave and his No. 9 Team ASE crew did a fantastic job keeping Musgrave on the lead lap as they worked to fix his Tundra - but Musgrave ended up finishing the race in the 23rd spot. "My No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra was not all that bad early on in the race," said Ted Musgrave. "We worked our way up from a bad qualifying effort. I had made my way up to the top-10 and was looking for a good solid top-five finish. We weren't going to be a winning truck but we had a top-five truck. It was unfortunate that we had a mis-queue in turn three. I was running a low line and a lap truck got into my left rear quarter panel and turned me sideways. I did some dirt racing and hurt the aero dynamics of the truck. From that point on my truck was very ill handling and very tight in traffic, which made it tough to pass and gain spots. My hat goes off to our entire No. 9 and No. 30 pit crews. They did an incredible job getting me in and out of the pits and trying to fix the No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra. They were able to keep me on the lead lap." With his 23rd place finish Musgrave moved back three points to third as David Reutimann took over second. The Craftsman Truck Series Driver Points leader and teammate, Todd Bodine increased his points lead by 181 points over third place Musgrave.
