Hornaday, Jr., Busch Series Preview: Milwaukee
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Hornaday in the No. 33 at Milwaukee: This week in the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet, Ron Hornaday will take the wheel. Hornaday has made five Busch Series starts in the No. 33 Outdoor Channel Chevrolet this season. He has one top-five and two top-10 finishes this year. A fifth-place effort at Dover (Del.) International Speedway three weeks ago is his best finish of 2006 to date. Hornaday, who celebrates his 48th birthday on June 20, will look for another strong finish in Milwaukee.

Double-Duty for Hornaday: Ron Hornaday will pull "double-duty" for the second time of the 2006 season at The Milwaukee (Wis.) Mile. Hornaday will compete in both the NASCAR Truck and Busch Series events at Milwaukee (Wis.). Previously Hornaday pulled "double-duty" three weeks ago at Dover (Del.) International Speedway. Hornaday picked up a seventh-place finish in the Truck Series event, and a fifth-place finish in the Busch Series event. Hornaday currently sits 12th in the Truck Series driver standings and the No. 33 team sits 15th in the Busch Series owner standings. Hornaday also has one win this season in the Truck Series, Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Speedway, on May 27.

Hornaday a Milwaukee Winner: Ron Hornaday's last Busch Series win was almost two years ago at The Milwaukee (Wis.) Mile. Hornaday, took his No. 2 ACDelco Chevrolet to victory lane that night for Richard Childress Racing. The win was one of four Busch Series wins for Hornaday in his career. In addition to his win, Hornaday has three top-five and five top-10 finishes at The Milwaukee (Wis.) Mile.

Did You Know?: Ron Hornaday's first Busch Series start was in May of 1998, at Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway. Hornaday started 43rd and finished 23rd. Since that day, Hornaday has made 163 Busch Series starts. He has four wins (Nazareth, IRP, Nazareth, Milwaukee), 28 top-five and 61 top-10 finishes. Hornaday has just one lone Busch Series Pole, Lowe's (N.C.) Motor Speedway, May 2002.

Happy Birthday Hornaday: Tuesday, June 20, will mark Ron Hornaday's 48th birthday. Last week at KHI Hornaday received a birthday cake from the team while celebrating his Mansfield victory with a team luncheon. This week Hornaday will have two chances to bring home a "birthday win," as he'll be racing in both the NASCAR Truck and Busch Series races at Milwaukee, Wis. Hornaday is the second of three Hornaday racers; his father Ron Hornaday Sr., raced in numerous divisions of NASCAR and throughout the country, Ron's son Ronnie III, is also a racer, competing in the NASCAR Truck Series and the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) Series as well.

Driver: Ron Hornaday
Why do you like Milwaukee so much?
"Milwaukee is my kind of track. You've got to be aggressive and have a car that will turn good in the corners. I've had a lot of great runs at The Milwaukee (Wis.) Mile, and I hope to do the same this weekend."

Will double-duty help your Busch effort this weekend? "Double-duty helped me last time in Dover. It's a great chance for extra seat time, and to get a better handle on the tires and the track conditions. In Dover we learned a lot about the tires in the Truck race and we were able to carry that over to the Busch race. I expect the same will hold true this weekend. Wally (Rogers) will be my crew chief on the Truck as well, so that should be a big help."

Crew Chief: Wally Rogers
You and Hornaday finished fourth in Milwaukee last year in the Truck Series, will that experience help this time around? "I think that even though last year we worked together at Milwaukee (Wis.) in the trucks, that it will still be a help this year in the Busch car. I'll be working with Ron on Friday for the Truck Series race, so we'll learn together, and hopefully go into Saturday a step ahead."

Evaluate the month of June to this point for the No. 33 Team: "Highs and lows. We started off great with Ron's run at Dover, we stumbled in Nashville, and I felt like we had a good comeback in Kentucky even though the finish didn't reflect it. The guys have been working very hard in the shop to get cars ready to race, and we're getting better each week."

Technical Information

  • KHI crew chief Wally Rogers will load chassis No. 009 onto the transporter for competition at The Milwaukee (Wis.) Mile. Chassis No. 009 has been raced once in 2006. Ron Hornaday drove the car at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
  • The NASCAR Busch Series AT&T 250 at The Milwaukee Mile can be seen live on FX at 8:30 p.m. ET. MRN will carry the live radio broadcast.
