Yellow flags plagued the City of Mansfield 250 on Saturday, but this didn't throw of Stacey Johnson and the No. 33 trucks game plan. Stacey Johnson picked the proper times to come in and lead Ron Hornaday to a victory, earning himself Crew Chief of the Race honors.
Three judges; including Charles Krall with TruckSeries.com, Robbie Reiser, and a WypAll® Wipers rep. decided that Johnson's performance was worthy of Crew Chief of the Race accolades. Johnson, the teams usual Director of Competition, had his number called this weekend in Mansfield and responded with a remarkable showing. Robby Reiser had this to say about Johnson's performance. "For someone who hasn't had a ton of experience with heading up this team's crew, Stacey sure got the job done. When guys can step up and perform the way Stacey did, it really shows the depth of a race team."
After the race, Johnson shared his opinion of why his team performed so well. "One of the biggest things that helped us this week was the fact that Todd Barrier from RCR came up yesterday and helped us get her dialed in for the Race. Besides that we just pitted early and hoped it would work out for us. After last year we kind of felt like this track owed Ron one."
Stacey Johnson Jr. earned $500 for winning the WypAll® Wipers Crew Chief of the Race Award presented by Fastenal. He now shares second place with six other crew chiefs in this year's challenge. The challenge returns to the Dover International Speedway on June 2nd for the next truck race of the 2006 season. At the end of the season the crew chief who possesses the most weekly titles will take home $10,000 and the right to be called the WypAll® Wipers Crew Chief of the Year.
