David Ragan fell victim to an unfortunate early incident on Friday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway by getting tangled up in a wreck on lap four. Trying to avoid the incident, Ragan brushed the outside wall with his No. 50 Ford, resulting in suspension damage that would plague his Ford F-150 for the rest of the evening.
Ragan started the event in the 12th position, and felt confident that he had a truck capable of a top-10 run. When things got out of control in front of him, he did all he could to avoid making contact with the spinning trucks in front of him.
"We just got up there into the wall trying to avoid being a part of the wreck in front of us," said Ragan. "I knew right away that we'd done a pretty good amount of damage. It was unfortunate that it happened, but all things considered, it would have been worse, we could have been on the back of a tow truck instead of still running."
Ragan pitted the No. 50 Ford several times under the caution in an effort to repair some of the suspension damage. When the race went back to green, it took only one lap for Ragan to report to the crew that the truck was going to need additional work. "This thing is super, super tight, I'm having to put a ton of wheel into it to get it to turn," he said.
A caution came on lap 46 for debris, and the No. 50 came down pit road for additional repairs, tires and fuel. The repairs made helped Ragan, but the F-150 was too damaged to contend for position gains on the track. He would ride out the rest of the event, picking up positions where and when he could.
"It was unfortunate, that's for sure," said Ragan of his troubles. "We really had a strong truck. We've just got some terrible luck right now. Everyone has worked really hard to give me some great Ford F-150's to race, and we'll get some better results here in the next few weeks. I'm looking forward to going to Mansfield and seeing what we can do there. I've got a lot of confidence on the short tracks, so we'll go up there and get a good finish and get ourselves back on track."
