Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Public Relations Department will be providing weekly construction updates as the speedway undergoes its multi-million dollar facelift, which will result in a new fan interactive garage area, a pit road closer to the grandstands, resurfaced and re-banked racing surface and state-of-the-art media center.
In the past week, construction crews have completed the following tasks:
Begun the process of bringing in dirt to create the 20-degree banked turns and the elevated back stretch. As of Friday, approximately 40,000 cubic yards of fill had been brought into the infield, which is about one-third of the dirt needed to finish the project.
Completed the installation of the new pit wall.
Begun the construction of the retaining wall on the backstretch. (Beginning Monday, crews will begin working 24-hour shifts to complete the crash wall around the speedway.)
Crews have removed most of the debris from demolished infield buildings.
Completed the rewiring of the Musco Lighting System on both the inside and outside of the track.
Halfway through the infield tunnel extension project.
