Lester, No. 22 Toyota Preview: Gateway
NOTES:
- This week's race truck for Gateway International Raceway is Chassis No. 22-52. Truck No. 22-52 was last raced at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in early April, where it ran in the top 15 all day. However, a late-race incident forced Bill Lester and the No. 22 team to finish deep in the field.
- Tested and Approved... Lester and the No. 22 Bill Davis Racing Tundra team tested at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway last Monday and Tuesday to prepare for Saturday's event. The team gained valuable information that will help its efforts at GIR.
- No Waste Here... The Waste Management logo will adorn the sides of the No. 22 Toyota Tundra during the Dodge Ram Tough 200. It is the second race this season that the waste removal company has served as primary sponsor of Lester and the No. 22 Tundra.
- Nice Race... Lester has finished in the top15 in two career starts at Gateway International Raceway and has started in the top 10 once. Lester scored his first top-10 finish of the 2004 season at the 1.25-mile oval.
- Listen and watch ... The Dodge Ram Tough 200 is scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m. EST Saturday, April 29. It will broadcast LIVE on Speed (TV), MRN (radio) and XM Radio (144).
Bill Lester on racing at Gateway International Raceway: "I can't wait to get to Gateway. Not only is it a good track for me and the No. 22 team, but I am getting cabin fever. We have not been to a race track in almost a month, and I am ready to get going. All the drivers have a hard time early in the season because we can never get in the groove of racing every week. Once we get going, the team really seems to gel and really run well.
"I look at St. Louis as kind of a road course, and I am always comfortable with road courses because it is my background. The two distinct corners make it different than just a regular oval. Last year, we had a good run and kept our nose clean and finished strong. I hoping the momentum that we have generated will carry into the race at Gateway International Raceway. I think we will be strong. Toyota has been producing great engines, and the guys here at Bill Davis Racing have been giving me great trucks. I am looking forward to it."
Crew chief Doug Wolcott on racing at Gateway International Raceway: "The No. 22 truck qualified in the fourth position last year and ran in the top 10 all day, but we had a bad tire late in the race, which put us toward the back of the pack. Bill battled back for a strong top-15 performance. This team really needs a solid top-10 performance. We have really run strong all year but do not have the finishes to show for it. It is always good to have a little momentum on your side going into one of the longest runs of the season. Bill Lester really knows how to get around this track, and I am really looking for good things out of this weekend."
