Chevy Silverado Race Notes: Atlanta
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

As the field thundered through turns three and four headed for the checkered flag of the John Deere 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the third green-white-checkered finish in as many 2006 races, Team Chevy Silverado drivers held four of the top-10 finishing positions. But the typical close, tough racing of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series saw the checkered flag waved for the first five trucks and the remainder of the field scattering to miss spinning and colliding trucks.

When the tire smoke cleared, Mike Bliss was able to bring his No. 16 Xpress Silverado across the finish line in seventh while Matt Crafton wove his way through the carnage to finish ninth.

The following are post-race quotes from Team Chevy Silverado drivers.

Mike Bliss, No. 16 Xpress Motorsports Silverado, Qualified 23rd, Finished 7th:
"We had a decent truck tonight. We were able to work our way through the field pretty well but we just didn't have quite enough adjustability to get all the way to the front and challenge for the win. It got pretty exciting there at the end, we were able to dodge the wrecking trucks and bring ours home in one piece. A lot better finish that last fall when we got wrecked on the first lap so we will take this finish and head on the Martinsville."

Matt Crafton, No. 88 Menards Silverado, Qualified 26th, Finished 9th:
"We were really good on long runs, we just struggled on our short runs. We got to seventh on the first run and actually got to sixth there at one point and I totally messed up and slid through the pit box and fell back to fifteenth. We drove back to eighth and had a bad pit stop there in the end that put us back in the field but all in all I'm real happy with the finish."

Dennis Setzer, No. 85 Shell Rotella T Silverado, Qualified 4th, Finished 11th:
"We were really loose at the beginning of the race, but Eric (Crew Chief) and the guys made some adjustments on the first two stops and we were a lot better in the end but still just too free on the longer runs. We had some good pit stops tonight, but just ran out of tires on the longer runs and especially there near the end.

Aric Almirola, No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado, Qualified 21st Finished 16th:
"I have mixed feelings about tonight.I'm really excited that my No. 75 Spears Chevrolet was running consistent tonight and we were picking up spots at the end. We were really good on long runs, but I couldn't get a run on old tires. I think tonight I've had the most fun in a truck, running 7th. On the other hand, it's just a disappointment for my entire team to get involved in a wreck at the end. I keep getting better every race, I'm learning out there."

Ron Hornaday, No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. Silverado, Qualified 25th, Finished 20th:
"The No. 75 just got air loose up front and all havoc broke loose. I was turning right and my spotter was telling me to go down pit road, just couldn't react before I got caught up in the mess. I took a pretty hard hit on the driver side in the wall on the front stretch, took a ride the infield care center and everything is ok. I think I hit so hard that my break pedal got bent over my foot. My guys worked really hard all day, and got my Silverado to feel comfortable at the end. We went from loose to too tight to finally just right."
