Hamilton Jr., No 08 Dodge Preview: Atlanta
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Bobby Hamilton Jr. will make his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start on the 1.54 mile quad-oval at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Friday in the John Deere 200. Hamilton Jr. is coming off of a 7th place finish at Daytona International Speedway and a 21st place finish in the series second event at California in the Corky's BBQ and Ribs Dodge. He currently stands 13th in the NCTS driver's point standings, just 10 points out of the top ten.

Bobby Hamilton Jr. on New BHR Chassis:  "This weekend I am running a new chassis that was built after California. Our performance was not what we wanted in California in the Corky's BBQ and Ribs Dodge so we went straight to the drawing board and figured out what was wrong. We sent three trucks to the wind tunnel and I am confident our performance will be better at Atlanta. This chassis does not have a name yet, but it has a number. My dad asked what chassis number it was and they told him No. 32. Which was ironic because that my NASCAR Nextel Cup number last year. So, dad told them to skip the number because we did not want to associate with Cal Wells' team. The chassis number now is 33 and I hope we can name it in Atlanta after we win the race."

Bobby Hamilton Jr. on Atlanta Motor Speedway:  "Atlanta is one of my favorite race tracks. I have always run well there. I qualified on the outside pole last year for the cup race and thought we were going to finish in the top 10, but had tire problems. As a driver, you love Atlanta because you can race the high line, the low line and even in the middle. It's a really fast track and you can get a killer run on someone coming out of the corners, that allows you to make up time on the racetrack if you are running well. Some of the places we go, the field is running pretty much the same speed and it takes forever to catch somebody. But at Atlanta you can move up a lane and pick up two or three-tenths on the competition. That's what makes for good racing among the drivers as well as for the fans watching in the stands or at home. My dad (Bobby Hamilton, Sr.) had a wild finish there two years ago with Mike Skinner and I am looking to repeat it."

More Atlanta Notes:

  • Hamilton Jr. has competed six times at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. His best start was 2nd (03/20/05 - PPI Motorsports). His highest finish was 15th (11/18/01-Morgan McClure Motorsports).
  • While racing in the NASCAR Busch Series, Hamilton Jr., raced five times at the 1.54-mile oval. His highest qualifying effort was sixth (10/25/03). His best finish was third (10/25/03).
