02-17-2006 | TruckSeries.com Report
Todd Bodine missed winning his fourth straight NCTS race with his second-place tonight. Bodine finished the 2005 season with three straight wins (Phoenix, Texas and Miami). Defending NCTS champion Ted Musgrave finished third in his first race driving a Tundra. TODD BODINE, Germain Racing, No. 30 iracing.com Tundra: "Second and third , can't complain, even though we wanted to win. It's great for me to have a teammate like Teddy (Musgrave) behind me. I knew I could count on him. It's a long year, and this is a great way to start with the points. I'm so proud of this team, we are on our way to continuing what we did last year. Now we've got the No. 9 truck up in the front with Teddy driving. It's going to be a lot of fun this year." What did you think of the race? "I thought it was a really clean race. Even though we were in the top-five and top-10 most of the night, everyone seemed to be using their heads and driving with some sense. All in all, the rules that NASCAR changed in the series helped the race and helped the 'driveability' of the trucks and that helps these kids learn how to drive." TED MUSGRAVE, Germain Racing, No. 9 Team ASE/Germain Toyota Tundra: How was the traffic? "It was good from where I was - I got up front early and stayed up front most of the night. So I never got in that mess back there - it looked pretty hectic back there." MIKE SKINNER, Bill Davis Racing, No. 5 Toyota Tundra: How frustrating was the night? It's very frustrating, but if you look back at history and look back at last year - I can count six races that we dominated and inside 10 laps to go, the caution came out and we lost those races. I'm not going to complain about it - it is what it is. I'm just thankful we finished fourth. Last year after Atlanta they had a 400-point lead on us after a couple races. Our goal this year is to be closer than that. I guess it's a good start." How was the truck handling? "It was perfect. I saw a lot of guys that weren't handling perfect. My teammate Bill Lester had his hands full. I was trying to stay in line with him, but his truck was all over the place. I hated to pass him because I knew I was going to hang him out." JACK SPRAGUE, Wyler Racing, No. 60 Con-Way Tundra: Saving the truck? "I just got under Todd. He was outside me and Mark was behind me, took the air off me and got severely loose. I got in the apron and back on the race track, and somehow it didn't wreck. That's the best I've ever finished here in a truck so I'll take it."
