Rookie Qualifying Notes: Daytona
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Joey Miller, No. 12 Curb Records Toyota, Top Raybestos Rookie Qualifier at Daytona:
"You can't do much here other than hold it wide open. I'm definitely excited. We're in the top-10 right now and hopefully we can get out of here with a top-10 qualifying run. It really shows how strong the equipment is and the team and how we all work together to accomplish this."

Can you get drafting help tommorow? "I think as a Raybestos Rookie you're always going to have that trouble but hopefully we can be enough friends with everybody that the Curb Records Toyota can get right up there towards the front."

How difficult will pitting be in the race? "I'm always a little bit more conservative, but I was here last year and pitted here at Daytona with an ARCA car. I've got a little bit of experience but it will be a new thing."

How was practice? "Practice was really good. We had the Raybestos Rookie practice and was quick there and it shows how quick we were today in qualifying. Our truck was a little loose in drafting the day before and I think we've got it here where it will race pretty good. Hopefully we can come away with a top-10."

Kyle Krisiloff, No. 15 ditech.com Chevrolet:
"That's a half-second slower than what we practiced this morning. I don't really know what happened but luckily it really doesn't matter. Tomorrow we'll just get in the race and avoid the wreck. There's going to be a lot of them and I know we'll be there at the end. Our trucks run so well and it's really surprising that we ran that slow. I think that everybody thought that we'd be top-10 in qualifying. I'm really confused right now. Tomorrow I know that we'll have a really good truck and we'll be up there at the end."

Are you encouraged by how well this team performed last year? "I know everyone on my race team including Richie Wauters the crew chief, they put good stuff together. We've been strong the whole time that we've been down here. It stinks because it's an impound race and we can't look at the truck. Since we've been here the slowest that we've run even in a race run, was a 51-flat. Tomorrow we've got to run a pack and not by ourselves. We're all the same so I'm looking forward to it."

Boston Reid, No. 25 Woodard & Sharp Racing Dodge:
"That's exactly what we expected because we just concentrated on drafting because we knew that we were in the show. We didn't do that when we tested so no notes on what the truck would do in the draft. While we were here I think we made one mock qualifying run. The rest was drafting time. That's exactly what we knew we had. The guys did an awesome job putting this deal together. We have a fast racetruck and that's all that matters. The guys at Woodard & Sharp are awesome. That's what we had, we're in the show and let's go race now."

Eric Darnell, No. 99 Roush Racing Ford:
"That's not what we were expecting. It was a lot slower and I don't know what happened. I'm disappointed, not that I'm really worried about it because I think it will draft real good and it will run well in the race. It's not where we want to be right now. We were quick down here earlier today and we were quick down here testing and I don't know what happened."

Erin Crocker, No. 98 Cheerios Betty Crocker Dodge:
"By ourselves we really haven't run any faster than that anyway. We didn't concentrate in qualifying. We concentrated on being comfortable in the draft and I felt really good earlier today. I think it might be a characteristic of the Dodge because I see a few others around me. I feel good, though. I know we're in the race so I don't have to worry about that, thank goodness. There's not much driver involved in qualifying, at all. It is frustrating and it is what it is and you've got what you've got."

Kraig Kinser, No. 47 Centrix Auto Finance Chevrolet:
"Since this was at night and the track changed and slowed down, we don't know how to gauge it, really. It was a pretty comfortable lap. I thought it loosened up a little bit since it was at night and the car was a little bit freer. It wasn't too bad. I think it was a pretty good lap."

How much have you had to adjust to this type of racing? "I think anything you can get in and steer will help you in the long run, as long as you don't pick up bad habits from it. I definitely think it definitely helps. Anything behind the wheel helps."

How big of a learning curve do you have here with the draft? "I'm probably not even halfway on my learning curve with the draft, not even close to it. It's just a totally different feel, just having cars affect you that bad. They always affect you to a certain extent when you're racing around cars but to have it affect you that bad is unbelievable. It's a neat feeling. It's definitely something that I'll never forget."
