NOTES:

  • This Week's race truck for Daytona International Speedway is Chassis No. 5-21. The No. 5 team is taking a new truck from the Bill Davis Racing fleet to Daytona International Speedway.
  • Tested and approved... The No. 5 team tested chassis No. 5-18 in January at Daytona International Speedway. The truck was slow during the first day of testing, but the No. 5 team worked feverishly to improve its machine. By the end of the test, the team had a truck that can compete for the win Friday night.
  • Golf anyone? Driver Mike Skinner will compete in the 33rd NASCAR-LPGA Golf Tournament Feb. 10. The Pro-Am tournament has been a staple of Speedweeks for three decades.
  • Double Duty... Skinner will compete in both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event Friday night and compete in the Gatorade Duel Thursday afternoon in an attempt to qualify the No. 23 Bad Boy Mowers Dodge for Sunday's Daytona 500.
  • Home Sweet Home... Mike and wife Angie call Daytona Beach home. The couple has resided in Daytona Beach for more than five years and is active members of the local community.
  • Come and See... Skinner will join his Bill Davis Racing teammates Monday, Feb. 13 at the Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach. The trio will talk to Benny Parson live on his PRN radio show, then proceed to Daytona USA to talk to Eli Gold on his famous weekly radio show on MRN. The BDR drivers hit the airways at 6:20 p.m.

Mike Skinner on racing at Daytona International Speedway:
"I'm real excited about the truck we have for Daytona. It was not really that fast when we tested it in January, but it ran real good in the draft. I know Jeff (Hensley, crew chief) and the guys will fine tune it to get it ready for the race. I'm also confident that we'll have some more motor when we return for the race.

"Daytona is the first race of the season, but I don't care what race is first, because they all pay the same amount of points. Heading to Daytona, everyone starts with zero points, so we're all equal. Last year, we crashed at Daytona while leading, then had a couple of mechanical problems in the first few races, which knocked us way back in the points. I think we were 28th in points after the first few races, but we were able to come back to finish fifth. This year, we want to have a better start to the season and be right there in the championship hunt with five or 10 races left on the schedule, then be able to challenge for the title.

"A year ago, we had a lot of challenges at Daytona. We started in the middle of the field (16th), which was a concern because we didn't want to end up in the middle of a wreck. We were able to get through that and move to the front. Then while leading the race, we got wrecked. In order to do well at Daytona, you need to dodge some bullets, have some 'racing luck' and be careful who you race side-by-side with in the race. Those are the keys to having a good Daytona race."

Crew chief Jeff Hensley on racing at Daytona International Speedway:
"We have worked very hard this winter and have the best trucks I have had since I started at Bill Davis Racing. We had an opportunity to make our current trucks better and were able to build some new stuff as well. We have been to the wind tunnel a couple of times, and I think we are going to be really good. I am looking forward to going back to Daytona and having a solid run.

"I look forward to Daytona because it is the start of the season, but it is not one of my favorite tracks. There is no safe place to be on that track. Last year, we were in the lead and were taken out by a lapped truck. There is too much uncertainty at a superspeedway. I like going to tracks where the crew and driver have more control over the outcome of the race."
